The Huffington Post Joins Global, Multi-Platform Climate Desk Partnership

Climate Desk today announced the addition of The Huffington Post as an official partner in its eight-member collaboration, which now brings stories about the human, environmental, economic, and political impact of climate change to a potential audience of more than 225 million monthly readers.

In 2013, Climate Desk shared more than 430 unique stories across partner sites—a 117 percent increase over the previous year. Highlights of stories include: breaking news coverage of the devastating Yosemite wildfire; thoughtful analysis on climate policy and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report; in-depth reporting on the latest developments in climate science; an investigation into cannibal lobsters, one of the more obscure results of climate change; and more.
Climate Desk boasts a roster of A-list contributors including Suzanne Goldenberg of the Guardian, Phil Plait of Slate, and now Kate Sheppard of The Huffington Post. Climate Desk also expanded its own reporting staff last year, with best-selling science writer Chris Mooney and senior project manager Jeremy Schulman joining James West and Tim McDonnell.
A multimedia, multi-site, and multi-platform operation, Climate Desk last year produced a mini-documentary with the Guardian on fracking’s contribution to drought conditions in West Texas. The Climate Desk team also made a video with Slate’s Plait dispelling misinformation about arctic sea ice, and hosted a panel featuring journalists from The Atlantic, the Guardian, The Huffington Post, Mother Jones, and Slate at the 2013 SXSW Eco conference.
In 2013, Climate Desk also continued its Climate Desk Live event series and launched Inquiring Minds, a weekly podcast exploring the intersection of science, politics, and society, which was quickly named one of iTunes' “Best of 2013” and has garnered more than 425,000 downloads since September.
