What's Worse? Exxon or Comfortable Footwear?
The Consumerist is having fun with its first-ever "Worst Company in America" survey. Today's corporate death match is between oil giant ExxonMobil and Crocs, the much-hated-upon yet oh-so-comfy rubber clogs. So who's worse? Here's a hint. And it looks like the Consumerist's readers are starting off on the the right foot, too.

We all complain [deleted] about the greed of Exxon/Mobil but is anything being done about it? The government is not getting involved. You don't bite the hand that feeds you
Smoking is a personal decision, and there is no longer any debate that it is very harmful to one's health. But ExxonMobile is trying to discredit legitimate science, and the resulting peril is not a personal choice, but massive change to the entire planet, affecting millions of humans and animals. Personally, I don't care so much what a magazine advertises as long as they continue to cover the stories that the corporate, mainstream media do not. I will admit, though, that if I notice any change in the way M.Jones' covers stories, then I will stop reading it. Few people have money to support independent news anymore, especially during this recession and with the effects of NAFTA; I would rather see M.J. survive, even if it means taking money from tobacco company advertisements. No one forces you to smoke; if you don't like it, don't read it anymore, but why do you feel the need to try to "ban" M.J instead of letting individuals make up their own minds? If you want to ban or boycott something, start with Verizon and AT&T who let the government listen in on American citizen's private phone calls, e-mails, etc. Or boycott watching corporate T.V. networks--including their stupid shows. Try reading a book instead; and anyone who citicizes free-speech is a moron--there is no two ways about it! It's all or nothing. Once you allow someone to ban speech, no matter how offensive it is to you, down a dark road you have started. Damn! We should never give up any civil liberties for ANY reason, including the government's fear-mongering about terrorism! Your chance of dying in a terrorist atack in America is 40,000 to one, yet your chances of dying of a heart attack are 350 to one. Yet, we continue to spend more than the rest of the world combined on W.M.D.s while only the wealthy can afford health care! From what we've spent on the Iraq War, we could give every American a million tax-free dollars, and give them free health care! 400 billion dollars!! To kill a bunch of people who had nothing to do with 9/11!!

I was a member of The Co-op back in the good ol' days in Berserkely. (The Co-op was a long established, almost establishment, store that sold food, hardware, sporting goods, etc. I think it's defunct now.) Anyway, that back when Anita Bryant was selling orange juice and bashing gays, so there was a sign over the frozen OJ, explaining the situation, giving some fairly even-handed background and noting that you might not want to buy the juice on account of the controversy. Also, Rainbo Bread, known in the industry as balloon bread, was actually labeled Balloon Bread on the shelves. Similar solutions might be applicable for MJ
