McCain Recycles His Green Image...From MoJo?

mccain-CFL.jpg

In the past few days, we've seen John McCain turn green faster than David Banner. Just in case this sudden transformation shreds his clothing, he can now suit up in his campaign's new line of "Go Green" merchandise. Items include 70% bamboo polo shirts, organic cotton baseball caps, and a travel mug made from recycled plastic. All feature a new twist on the militaristic McCain logo—the little star has been replaced with the recycling symbol. That's okay—the symbol is all about reuse, even if it's being used to woo voters who want their trash to biodegrade in less time than it takes to get US troops out of Iraq. But how to explain why the lead image on McCain's climate-change page (top) is oddly reminiscent of the logo from our latest cover (bottom)?

(Tip of the organic hat to Tim Dickinson.)

That's hilarious, but can we get a link?

Just added the link, above.

I don't know that I agree on the "borrowing" issue. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a McCain supporter, but I think the symbolism behind a lightbulb representing an idea is pretty universal and likely to be public domain by now. It isn't too much of a stretch to turn it green. But, yours is a question mark while his is an actual item I've purchased myself, sans the green tint. I don't think they got it from Mojo at all. I think that the rebirth of "Save the Earth" following the 40th anniversary of Earth Day has brought similar thoughts to many minds. But, again, that doesn't mean I intend to vote for this man who has no qualms about leaving our military where they never should have been in the first place.

Well, with the McStain history of copying (Cindy's 'family' recipes come to mind) I wouldn't put it past them. It would be interesting to see if this image is on his website, a really smart computer person might be able to find 'tags' in the code that would prove it one way or the other. Our local newspaper is involved in a lawsuit for just this kind of infringement - and they were stupid enough to just copy the code and include all the original author's imbedded signature tags. Ha!

McSlime's people are about that stupid (see Cindy's family recipes) so someone have fun!

Pretty weak connection

It's cover art not a logo.

Regardless unless the art work is a registered trademark (even then)you're pushing copyright and trademark law to the limits.

You might prevail but at what cost?

I do believe the connection is rather a weak one.....rays coming from a lightbulb or other source of light have been done since mankind first made images......however, those so called environmental lightbulbs are not so environmental..one has to be suspicious of something made of mercury and in China....most so called environmental things really are not......Mike
