REP. JAN MEYERS (R-KS)

During the time that the US was engaged in a war with Iraq, Rep. Meyers and her husband executed quick-trade stock purchases in defense and defense-related firms. Here are her trades:

Boeing: (P) 2/19/91 (S) 7/30/91 $1,000 - $15,000

Stewart and Stevenson: (P) 2/22/91 (S) 4/30/91 $1,000 - $15,000

Groundwater Technology: (P) 2/27/91 (S) 3/27/91 $15,000 - $50,000

Boeing is, of course, a major defense contractor supplying aircraft, helicopters and missiles. Boeing, in particular, makes the B-52 bomber and the AWACS (both widely used throughout the Gulf War).

Stewart and Stevenson is also a defense contractor, supplying the military with tactical vehicles. In October of 1991, Stewart and Stevenson was awarded a 1.2 billion dollar FMTV contract with the Army.

Groundwater Technology specializes in contaminated groundwater clean-up and restoration. They sell their services to the military and overseas markets. Interestingly, the day after her purchase (on February 28, 1991), H.J. Res. 157:DIRE EMERGENCY SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATIONS was introduced in the House (Became P.L. 102-229). This appropriations bill contained money for Desert Storm AND water restoration!!

PAC NOTES: Since 1987, Rep. Meyers has accepted $2,400 in campaign contributions from Boeing.

VOTE NOTES: Rep. Meyers voted AYE on the resolution to use force against Iraq.

NOTES: Rep. Meyers is # 3 on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe and the Middle East; she is # 4 on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Policy, Trade and the Environment.
