REP. TOM RIDGE (R-PA)
On February 3, 1993, Rep. Ridge purchased between 1,000 and 15,000 dollars worth of stock in Westinghouse Electric.
On the same day, February 3, a bill was introduced in the House that, if passed, would hurt Westinghouse. The bill was H.R. 790 TRIDENT II (D-5) MISSILE PRODUCTION TERMINATION ACT. (referred to House Armed Services Committee).
Westinghouse is a major defense contractor. According to a January 26, 1994 article in Aerospace Daily, Westinghouse was awarded a 10.3 million dollar contract to build launcher hardware for the Trident Missile Program.
H.R. 790 was introduced by Rep. Tim Penny (D-MN). Rep. Penny sits on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee with Rep. Ridge. The ranking Republican member on Ridge's Veterans' Affairs Committee is Bob Stump (R-AZ). Rep. Stump is # 2 on the House Armed Services Committee and # 1 on the Armed Services Subcommittee on Research and Technology.
POLITICAL MONEY NOTES: From April 1989 thru October 1992, Rep. Ridge accepted $4,250 in campaign contributions from the Westinghouse PAC.
