Doomed Pudding of the Day

The Country Formerly Known as Iraq

Amidst the avalanche of lies in Bush's crank call last night was a golden nugget of honesty: This is an act of Imperialism; that the U.S. would maintain a military involvement in Iraq for as far as the eye can see. This is the exact kind of presence that kicked off al-Qaeda in the first place. . .and what today keeps it strong and growing. This image from James Gillray, originally of Napoleon, "The Plumb Pudding in Danger. . .The great Globe itself, and all which inherit it, is too small to satisfy such insatiable appetites."

Guess what folks, there never really WAS an Iraq! That name was affixed to a put-together job during the 1919 peace conference in Paris by Gerturde Bell, gathering osme remnants from the Ottoman Empire and set to be administered by Britain. It didn;t work then, it isn;t working now, and it won't be around in the future.

Raul: Know your enemy. If you don't you end up like, er, well, you know. Pete: Thanks for this. The only thing that could hold this bag of marbles together would be someone like, well, Saddam Hussein.
