Arabian Seas Expedition

Iranian reefs suffer the constant Persian Gulf threats of oil pollution, urban runoff from oil ports, and sedimentation from coastal development. Iranian Vice President Hadi Manafi announced in July 1997 that his country would form a task force to protect the Persian Gulf's marine environment, specifically corals and other aquatic species, hinting that it might want to join with other Gulf countries to achieve these goals. Believe it when you see it; Gulf experts frequently lament the toothless environmental agreements that the Gulf states have entered into thus far.
