Sea Change
As climate change melts the permafrost, Arctic villages slip into the sea, taking a way of life with them.

Click here to view the complete Photo Essay.Get used to it: real estate falling into the sea. And not just beach houses and seaside time-shares. Think towns and cities. These images of Shishmaref village on Alaska's remote west coast reveal the tip of a terrain melting so fast it will carry whole cultures away with it—rich and poor, polluters and nonpolluters, all vulnerable to the great leveler, the ocean. You think South Pacific island nations and remote Arctic outposts will be the only victims? Wrong. Because no matter what we do on the carbon emissions front in the coming decades, the world ocean is forecast to warm and rise for the next millennium or more. Pictures like these will soon be commonplace.
In Shishmaref, calamity has already arrived. The village of 600 Inupiaq lies on the fragile barrier island of Sarichef, where sea ice forms later each year, exposing the land to autumn storms that carve away 50 feet or more of shoreline a season. Two houses have slipped into the sea; 18 others have been moved back from the encroaching ocean; others buckle from the melting permafrost. Ten million dollars has been spent on seawalls, to no avail. Residents have concluded permanent resettlement is their only option. But considering America has yet to seriously tackle New Orleans' sea-level problems, no one on this distant edge of the Chukchi Sea imagines the $180 million needed to relocate Shishmaref will be easy to come by. And Shishmaref is not alone. A 2004 Government Accountability Office report found that of Alaska's 213 Native villages, 184 are battling floods and erosion, while another assessment foresees that in the coming decades, Alaska will require $6.1 billion to repair global warming's domino effect of fallen bridges, burst sewer pipes, and disintegrating roads. Worldwide, the situation is more dire, more expensive: Oxfam suggests the United States owes $22 billion, or 44 percent—our polluting share—of the $50 billion needed each year for poor nations to adapt to climate change.

www.H2onE2.com Glacial Respiration, Conceptual Ring of Ice, The End of Linear Western Religion
A Geological Exploration of an E2 Earthen Planet And the H2 Human Species
Author: B Billy Marse, Professional Geologist
Brief Description:
www.H2onE2.com is an exploration of the universe, geology, climate, biology, humans, psychology, folklore and ancient structures to uncover the beginning and disclose the end of linear western religion. The true DaVinci Code behind the bible is not a supreme spiritual power but a scientific record of climate change described as Glacial Respiration. The Greek philosophers originated the practice of communicating a hidden idea or message in the short story format, as a metaphor. In the bible, metaphors conceal historic climate change within the fanciful stories. The theory of Glacial Respiration explains the myth behind the Holy Grail, structures such as the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Easter Island and is the knowledge that was collected in the Jewish Ark of the Covenant.
The environmental changes of Glacial Respiration determine all biological evolution and can explain why higher forms of intelligent humans developed. Further, Glacial Respiration releases the secret hidden by the Knights Templars, Masonic Order and all religions. Uncovers an advanced Blue-Blooded semi-industrial Atlantian Civilization that was built and destroyed many times over for the last million years. The book ends with an explanation of how linear western religion will be physically ended and describes the construction of the doomsday device capable of fulfilling its own self defining prophesy, “Revelations”. H2onE2 is a mind-expanding experience that stimulates the soul, instinct, intellect and is an almanac to the past, present and future of humanity. Rise, awaken and evolve into H3 human consciousness.
The discovery:
As a Professional Geologist, I attempted to link the Dust Bowl/Great Depression to a pre-glacial condition or mechanism and ended up writing the book H2onE2. I felt that there was a strong connection between the Dust Bowl and transition back into Glacial Winter. I did notice that my professors scientifically crumbled every time I mentioned the relationship. I could not go back in time or locate indisputable proof. The proof came from understanding all educational disciplines including history and theology. I soon discovered that all religious text both eastern and western continually described significant climate change conditions relating to Glacial Respiration. For years I fought off mixing science and religion until I discovered that the origins of all religions were founded or created to help humans psychologically survive the harsh earthen environment. Without reason I soon accepted that the world's complicated religions were the same. This came true and I continued to write and discover. Everything came into place as though I was unlocking a 10,000-year-old puzzle. I also realized this puzzle was opened before I discovered it, by someone else, some other group. If so, further understanding of this knowledge might be extracted from significant historical events. Lastly, this is the vital information needed to make future predictions.

Truth is gay? or is that the closed mind of the fearfull
'Saw a Toyota TV commercial last night. It the TV spot they said that Toyota believes that we must make as "little impact on the environment as possible." I think they've got it royally wrong. When are the polluters going to act to MAKE NO IMPACT ON OUR ENVIRONMENT. And the key word must be 'no' impact. But is it too late? God help us all!!
What mental disorder must one have to be absolutley consumed with dread over something that they have no control over? When we hear that even those scientists who believe that man is responsible for global warming (and their #'s are shrinking - not growing in the last several months!) admit that we would have to live like cave men for 200 years so that we can cool off a degree or 2 is ignorant. Especially when the rest of the developing world makes up for our emmissions and then some. The real answer lies in "liberal guilt" that tries to rob the pure joy out of living in a wealthy, democratic and open society. People need to learn to love the gift of life, help others in ways that actually matter and be grateful that they weren't born in either another time or place that the other 99.9% of human life had to suffer through.
Go ahead - smile. You really are fortunate.
Luvin'Life,
Just keep grinning through famine, natural disasters, and extreme weather. There are some of us who actually prefer not to live in ignorance. Just because I could buy an ATV, Winnebago, SUV, or any of a hundred useless pieces of crap out there doesn't mean I should, and I'm happy! I do help people in "ways that matter" and I actively try to reduce my carbon footprint. I don't have a shred of "liberal guilt" but rather a bit of anger and frustration at people who argue away valid science to justify their own selfishness. Just because you have the dumb luck of living in a wealthy society doesn't mean you're entitled.
Absolutely "U"! There are still those lost souls out there who would like to believe climate change (let's call it what it actually is) is some far-fetched yuppie conspiracy, and prefer to remain in comfortable ignorance rather than get off their pampered arses and do something constructive. I feel no guilt myself, but I do feel remorse for people like Luvin Life. Wake up!! Be part of the solution.
At the risk of being ridiculed I'm gonna say it..."stationary-bicycle-powered computers anyone?" Green Business for the affected? Always enjoyed this one:

This website holds images that I would never have had access to without the contribution of skilled and dedicated photographers. Thank you for bringing some culture to my world.
I was raised in a fishing village in Bristol Bay in the 40's & 50's and at one time my grandmothers home was 200 ft. from the river bank.10 years ago it was even with the bank. Erosion happens and a person should build with that in mind. This has been going on for centures and will continue. People build next the water for conveniance so they don't have to walk so far to the boats. That's understandable and also the price you pay.
that iz sooooooo sad.... i feel bad 4 them
Sorry you and so many deniers think this way. Now jump in your Hummer and drive away and don't come back. It will be much better without people of your ilk posting drivel.
To ffff:The evidence is in front of you yet you still deny it's existance. How one explains this type of behavior is beyond absurd. Your money can't save you from the effects of what is happening to the earth, the place we all live.Try and take a little more care of it.
i would like to see the gay website...only people can be twisted and act gay...!!!
So how much do you thing sea level has actually risen? .7 inches
How much has temperature gone up in that area in the last 100 years? 1.7 degrees
Doesn't actually sound like catastrophic global warming to me
to luvin life, its not liberal guilt, its shame, shame that people like you are so [deleted]headed and self centered that you dont care about the billions of people living on this planet in horrible conditions, starving and thirsty working for 5 cents an hour so you can wear flashy nikes. its shame that being so wealthy and ahead of the curve we as americans dont do more to help the hungry, downtrodden masses we sprung from
The global warming scare has me asking this question. In school I was taught that the age of the dinosaurs was an extremely warm period - about 30 degrees warmer than the earth's current temperature. Then something happened that caused a cataclysmic change in the climate - killing the dinosaurs and a lot of other species. There were no humans on the planet at the time, no SUVs, no polluting factories. So, the planet has been re-warming ever since. In fact, if you study the temperatures of the planet, it was 5 degrees warmer at the height of the Roman Empire than it is today. Danged, I didn't know the Romans had SUVs, polluting factories or any emissions that caused greenhouse gases. Now, I agree we should do all we can to protect the environment, but no mater what we do, the temperature will go up. Get used to it. But, it will also go down again. Historically, it swings about every 10,000 to 11,000 years. We are currently at 10,500, so keep your woolen underwear close at hand. And thaw you brain so it can reason in a rational manner.
The authors of this article are morons. End of discussion.
serisouly, this website is stupid. Kinda like that last image of the fat chick geeked up with sword in the anime photo shoor.
This is in response to Greg and others who share his views. The moment I read your comment angry fires exploded in the pit of my stomache, it provoked a disgust that I can not begin to describe. I live in Alaska, although a subcontinent, it is a very connected place. I do not live near Shishmaref but I've met people from the area and it is VERY REAL. These numbers ARE catastrophic. How can you not see from the images and article above?
They had better pass Property Maintenance, Zoning, and Building Codes NOW!
0.7 inches, I can spit that much.
1.7 degrees? Kelvin, Rankin, Celsius, or Fahrenheit? Can hardly measure that accurately, or precisely.
Whatever.
"The village of 600 Inupiaq lies on the fragile barrier island of Sarichef,"
Sounds like 2 or 3 jumbo jet loads and they are out of there.
I own a Hummer, RV, Offroad Vehicles, and a crossover. However I do not commute more than 7 miles to my job and we take the RV out 3 times a year. I probably burn less fuel in my SUV crossover and RV in a year than someone that drives a hybrid 60 miles one way to work everyday because they want to save mother earth. In the meantime the hybrid they have is loaded with lead from the batteries (more batteries than I have in my RV, SUV,and offroad vehicles) Save mother earth and work close to home like we do. P.S. I agree, This website is gay
Wow earth killer, good for you. I suppose you have excellent credit also so you can afford these luxuries. unlike me who pays cash for everything so the GOVERNMENT can't track me, like they track you (by the way I drive a 68 vw bus that burns leaded fuel, that way I save money because I do not have to get it smogged) If I had excellent credit I would buy a Hybrid from the Japanese (not from an American manufacturer) and drive all day (burning gas)trying to track you down. Earth Killer (nice name) probably does not believe in gay marriage also since he thinks this website is gay. I hate you, hate you hate you, hate you, earth killer you killer of earth, earth raper inconvienient truth denier, Al Gore hates you too, and so does all the Democratic Party
RELAX Liberal Lesbian..... Get off the computer and shut it down because you are burning valuable fossil fuels spewing your hate, and burning a hole in the ozone. I know Al Gore created the Internet (because he said he did)and I thank him because it allows 90% of the real world (us)to see how crazy the 1% (you)are. (The other 9% are the wishy washy type that say "happy holidays" when someone else says "happy holidays" and "Merry Christmas" when someone else says "Merry Christmas" These are te type that wil fall prey to the Democrats in the 2008 election also. GOD save us (I know you probably don't believe in GOD either)Now leave me alone. I am borrowing my friends copy of an inconvienint truth, driving to shell, buying a gallon of imported fuel and pouring it all over this DVD and setting it ablaze so that the polar ice caps can melt 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.1 degrees
earthkiller-exactly what is your point? just trying to piss people off? i'm sure that your god would be really impressed with your worldly goods and selfish imposing attitude. now go and love thy neighbor and be a good steward of the earth and stop being such a mean old jerk. you can't take the hummer to heaven. or hell for that matter.
To David Bush. You should look into the largely accepted theory about what caused the dinosaurs to become extinct about 65 million years ago. A scientist named Alvarez (2 scientists actually, father and son)argue for a huge meteor strike that seemed to have caused a period of nuclear winter. A significant amount of evidence has accumulated in favor of this theory, including the presence of a thin layer of a certain mineral (forget which one) at a certain geological strata that can best be accounted for in this way. It's was a helluva way to cool the planet!
What's with the "this website is gay" stuff? I really don't even get it.
All the money in the world will not help these poeple. A move is the only option for these people.
The only sensible response is to throw rotten eggs and tomatoes at George W. Bush and his family - repeatedly. We need to pelt this retard every single day of his sickening life. I plan to camp outside his ranch in Texas and heave rotten vegetables at him every time his motorcade goes by. I urge every human being to declare war on the Bush family and make sure they are humiliated and defiled every stinkin' day they continue to exist. That is all.
The article is interesting. Some of the comments by homophobic eccentrics are pathologically paranoid ! I speak from the experience of a psychiatric R.N. with an M.P.H. in Health Education and Human Sexuality. Labeling those whose comments challenge your uninformed beliefs is not appropriate. Read. Learn. Educate yourselves and recognize your own fears and fantasies as what they are - fears and fantasies.
p.s. Comments such as "this website is gay" make me giggle. How silly can you be?
hey this is laquita and i think that it was very sad about what happened and i wish that it didnt happen at all
Now, this what I call an educated, sensible, altruistic, well-reasoned solution to all problems that may exist!! everything wrong is George Bush's fault????
i think the point is not to make no impact but to start to make as much impact as possible towards reversing the effects as well as bieng aware of and being prepared for the effects of the sea rising. the problem is people still at this point in our history think that global warming is something they can choose to believe in or not . like a theory, however this is a reality that exists now. purposefull ignorance is not bliss it is deadly. just becasue it does not sit on your doorstep like a weed you see getting bigger everyday does not mean you can dismiss it.
MY GRAMM!! my grandpa is in the back too! i miss him ssoooo much! (RIP)
Thats my grandpa!! herbie!!!! miss him!
I Mushed those dogs!!!(dog sleding) got first!
yeah they built it but is it helping as much as it should?
these are real natives!! fun hangin with them! wish i didnt have to move away!
Global warming is an attck on earth as this would alow aliens to take this planet without a war.Just burn us out then teraform as they need.
Moderation in all things. Socrates said it and if applied to our world would make for a healthier and more balanced one. Also, Know Thyself. Would this not eliminate fear and engender love? Breath in a deep breadth. Now exhale. Close your eyes and see all the magnificent lights from the Infinite. Now repeat. Feel better? Love Ya.
