Elias Akhdar was among a group that purchased low-taxed cigarettes from North Carolina and untaxed cigarettes from an Indian reservation in New York and then resold them in Michigan, allegedly to fund Hezbollah. He was sentenced to nearly six years in prison and $2.1 million in restitution.
