Afridi and coconspirators Ilyas Ali and Sayed Mustajab Shah attempted to sell five tons of hashish and a half ton of heroin to an informant in exchange for four Stinger missiles, which Shah intended to sell to the Taliban. They were arrested in Hong Kong after meeting with agents posing as drug dealers. Afridi was sentenced to nearly five years in prison.
