It's the prize. Not an afterthought. RT @motherjones Background checks may be gun control's best hope, for now: http://mojo.ly/YHLgZu
All of us want to do the right thing, but it is not easy to do what it is right. Doing what is right requires courage. Acting with physical courage can be fearsome, but the way is clear -- perform the task and then go on; saving a life can be easier on the soul than speaking out. Moral courage, revealing the TRUTH in the face of the opprobrium of millions, can be never ending. It can be trying to a man to the end of his days. Scott Prouty has shown that courage. THANK YOU.
Ah yes, the old American knee-jerk reaction to any tragedy. Instead of education and communication about violence and weapons, mental health, and death, let's stop any of that nonsense and shield kids from realities of life. Playing cop and robbers doesn't make kids into killers, neither does video games. Mental instability causes violence. Poverty causes violence.
This is a breath of fresh air, the military spending money on 'the right' thingz so to speak. And at a reasonable price too. Thank you MoJo and especially Ms. Whitney for focusing, not only on the technology and money, but on the actual military reasoning for this and the long history of military leading the way for new technology and new infrastructure. THAT is, imo, a vital component of the debate on renewables that all too often gets left out of public discussions.
congrats @ClaraJeffery: So thrilled to announce that .@davidcornDC has won a Polk award for his #47percent reporting: http://bit.ly/Vy03Et
Case law shows us that when the police are given new technologies or methods of operating for a single, limited purpose, they continually push that boundary in order to achieve a much broader, unintended goal. In this case, we may (for example) allow police to deploy drones in order to pursue criminals who are fleeing rather than use squad cars to chase them. Ultimately, the police will find a way to justify incremental expansions of that capability until they have justified constant surveillance of public spaces. Second, we have spent far too much taxpayer money promoting a system wherein our security apparati (defense, police, prisons, etc.) have all been strengthened, but society at large has not seen a similar investment...
Because of the correlation between marijuana use and accident responsibility rates, they say, marijuana users, as a whole, can expect to see lower insurance rates than non-marijuana users." If true (and I don't see why they'd lie about this or make it up, we're talking about an insurance companies profits here) this is all you need to know. When an insurance company says that MJ smokers will pay less then non smokers maybe we need to rethink some of this stuff. Especially in regards to people with prescriptions for the stuff. I'm all prepared to arrest people and get them off the road when they're dangerous and inebriated and coming up with a better way to test if somebody is capable or not, I'm just not convinced we've figured out what that means in all contexts.
Contraception fails, rape happens, and poverty prevents good reproductive education and healthcare. Until you address these issues fully you will always have women seeking abortions, safely or unsafely when deemed illegal. If you truly care about the next generation you need to take care of this generation of women!
Well if people would stand up to them instead of backing down they would get the message. I really do think it is sad that they want to treat the kids like this. It is clearly the kids who suffer from this. I was in the cub scouts for a short period of time and I enjoyed it. If you asked me today if I would put my kids in the program I would honestly have to think about it. This policy of not admitting gays is wrong to me. They are a private organization so I can't dictate their policies, but since they don't agree with me then I wouldn't be able to have any dealings with them
He talks a good game and I'm not sure how he can sincerely believe the Koch Brothers are "just another source" on Climate Change. Also curious how "radical deregulation" and "creating a safety net" will happen when historically they've been at odds.
Painful must-read on #veterans and military families with PTSD paying the hidden costs of war (h/t “@AdamWeinstein)

I bought your digital subscription and love your magazine. It's an eyeopener to read your articles. I recently read a recent one re: Florida, where I live. I had no idea just how much damage Gov Scott has done since his election. Depressing to read and makes me wonder why very little of this is reported in our Florida media. Thanks for all you do to expose what needs more exposure.
