With their tumblr, coverage of Libya, Egypt, Japan, and general #swag, @MotherJones has just gained a new reader, possibly even a subscriber.
...the mainstream media puts so little effort into Africa journalism, letting Americans pretend the problems don't exist. Foreign and war-zone journalism is dangerous for men and women alike, and it takes courage to do it. I commend Mac McClelland's courage and hope her reporting brings us new knowledge.
Beautiful. I spent a couple of months at Fort Sill, OK and one of my favorite things to do was drive out into the park, sit up on the rocks and watch the bison up close and personal.
And to think that the American bison were once down to a mere 500 or so individuals. We came that close to losing a great piece of America in the so-called "taming" of the west.
Kudos to @MotherJones 4 winning the #AvedaAward for your enviro publishing leadership! http://bit.ly/guS0Fc
"Because if this is gonna be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we've got to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that he commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition -- and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
The cool kids have been hogging her. I only discovered @MotherJones a couple of months back myself.
I wish all the little petty laws/initiatives/et cetera that do NOT directly affect the well-being of the people could be round-filed, or at LEAST just shunted off to the side until the PRIORITIES are taken care of. If I can't take my sick kid to the doctor, or have no food for the table, why do I give a flying (^%$ what foul language some dude says on television (as I probably can't afford one with working channels anyway!)?
What we're seeing here are the after-effects of Citizens United. When you have largely anonymous billionaire donors like the Koches, legally able to throw as much money as they want at a candidate anywhere in the country, it emboldens said candidate to take whatever outrageous legal steps their handlers want them to take on any issue they find beneficial to fight about. Abortion is a convenient one, because it will never be settled.
April Fool's joke right?
351 bills in Congress aimed against women. A congressman censured for saying the word uterus on the house floor during a debate regarding reproductive rights. Apparently neither my America nor my Republican Party exists anymore. The Republicans I knew were for small government, not an intrusive one that can rape me, my daughter, and our bank accounts with equal ease and no repercussions.
I live in southeast Louisiana. While the spill was still going on, I went down to Grand Isle with my camera to take a little look-see. I was approached by a security/wannabe cop and was told that I was tresspassing. Now, mind you, my family has visited this same beach for 3 generations without any problems. He wanted to take my camera, and got a bit physical in doing so. This is MY state, not BP's. I got in a couple of good swipes and a great surprising kick in the shins on this "couldn't pass the police academy" rent-a-guard. He did NOT take my camera. Just because the news cameras have moved on, doesn't mean that things have improved. Except for locals, seems like most Americans have the attitude "out of sight, out of mind". Please don't allow this to continue. It's way worse than you think.

We've been having a limerick party in your honor:
"Long ago we learned of the uterus
But the fact it was dirty was new to us
And forget the vagina—
Christ! You'll give me angina!
Thank god we've got Florida to tutor us!"
