I remember when the cops up here responded to a near riot. Man, there were accusations flung around on both sides of the issue. As a Criminal Justice student at the time, I was pretty much alone in thinking that the police officers involved should be investigated. Ultimately, I think the whole thing was swept under the rug.

There is a reason I read Mother Jones first, 5 days a week. You do great exposes and stories like the internet warehouse slave article, the Hormel article, and the story of Ohio's working poor, shrinking middle class, pay erosion, etc. You were the only website who accurately reported last March that George Zimmerman did NOT get his gun back or bothered to show the actual photos police took of Zimmerman and the gun the day he was taken into the police station. Raw Story, Mediaite, and others merely indicated he waltzed into the hospital the next day with the injuries, you reported the whole truth. I think Zimmerman was an over zealous wannabe cop that never should've had a gun under any circumstances and most likely guilty of murder. That said, you kept your readers better informed than any other news source. Thanks for that, and kudos on the award.
I think it's a luxury to be able to cook everything from scratch and never use cans. I use them rarely and I am working on making more and more things myself, but I am a stay-at-home parent and I have the time to do these things. Frankly, it makes me angry that corporations are allowed to poison us and we are just supposed to make all sorts of sacrifices to avoid these poisons instead of, you know, banning them.

I'm so sick of folks saying Blacks are torpedoeing marriage equality. The majority of Black folks I know, including myself are for equality for all. We are less than 12% of the population and sadly we don't vote in record numbers. We aren't torpedoeing anything! Stop blaming Black folks for this!
My sister resisted the unwanted attentions of her "teammates" in basic, so one of them "slipped" when he had hold of her rope on the wall exercise and shattered her pelvis.
