I love the Friday cat blogging. And the Thursday Basset Blogging over at TBogg. And I love all the animals at Balloon Juice. Do conservative bloggers do regular pet blogging? Or is it mostly the liberals? I'm probably biased but it seems to me that liberals show more compassion to their fellow mammals.
Yeah, this backs up my experiences. I went to a private liberal arts college in the northeast on scholarship, but most of my friends from high school went to University of Oregon by default, which is supposedly a pretty good state school. I spent a good chunk of time visiting the campus and attending upper level classes with friends on occasion, and I was routinely shocked. Mid-sized to giant lectures, with sections twice a month. People openly sleeping in the stands. No studying done, outside of specific information a few days before a multiple choice final test (in a 300-level humanities course) with no written component. I don't know how you'd learn anything unless you were super-motivated to do it on your own. Incidentally, I thought the same thing about British universities when I was abroad.
My sister resisted the unwanted attentions of her "teammates" in basic, so one of them "slipped" when he had hold of her rope on the wall exercise and shattered her pelvis. Dropped her somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 feet onto hard packed dirt, destroying her military career before it even started.
I remember when the cops up here responded to a near riot. Man, there were accusations flung around on both sides of the issue. As a Criminal Justice student at the time, I was pretty much alone in thinking that the police officers involved should be investigated. Ultimately, I think the whole thing was swept under the rug.
This is KEWL!! If you go to GoogleMaps, use Satellite View and crank it down close, about three blocks south-south-west of Central Park, there's some buildings with nice shiney white roofs and some others with OBVIOUS gardens up there!!
There is a reason I read Mother Jones first, 5 days a week. You do great exposes and stories like the internet warehouse slave article, the Hormel article, and the story of Ohio's working poor, shrinking middle class, pay erosion, etc. You were the only website who accurately reported last March that George Zimmerman did NOT get his gun back or bothered to show the actual photos police took of Zimmerman and the gun the day he was taken into the police station. Raw Story, Mediaite, and others merely indicated he waltzed into the hospital the next day with the injuries, you reported the whole truth. I think Zimmerman was an over zealous wannabe cop that never should've had a gun under any circumstances and most likely guilty of murder. That said, you kept your readers better informed than any other news source. Thanks for that, and kudos on the award.
I think it's a luxury to be able to cook everything from scratch and never use cans. I use them rarely and I am working on making more and more things myself, but I am a stay-at-home parent and I have the time to do these things. Frankly, it makes me angry that corporations are allowed to poison us and we are just supposed to make all sorts of sacrifices to avoid these poisons instead of, you know, banning them.
