RE: Are Shorter Showers Beside the Point?

Your calculation (that showering is unimportant in the bigger picture) re carbon savings based upon conserving hot water by reducing your morning shower by ONE MINUTE is ridiculous. First, every little bit helps. If the average consumer manages to reduce his/her carbon footprint by such a ‘small” amount over a wide variety of behaviors, the reduction will be significant. Second, shaving a mere minute off the average shower is a gross underestimate of the savings of shorter showers. Suppose we all shave five, ten, fifteen, twenty minutes off our (sometimes more than once daily) showers? My college students, for example, routinely admit to taking 45 minute showers. Talk about wasteful habits. They could all stand to shave off 40 minutes a day!!!!! Now that would make a difference….
