DARK MONEY DYNASTY: DAN SCHULMAN ON THE KOCHS
Senior editor and bestselling author Daniel Schulman reveals the Koch legacy
DC bureau senior editor Daniel Schulman has written the first in-depth biography on the Koch’s — America’s most powerful and secretive family. Traffic to Mother Jones reached a new record high on June 30 with more than 3.1 million pageviews—55 percent higher than the previous daily record set on September 17, 2012, when David Corn broke the 47 percent story in the heat of the presidential campaign. In 2010, we averaged 3.1 million pageviews a month. Last month we did that in just one day. Driving the attention was a series of articles on the Supreme Court’s controversial Hobby Lobby ruling, providing readers with a one-stop shop on a critical breaking story. Read more here.
In the wake of the tragedy in Texas where six out of seven members of the Stay family were killed, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) tweeted several quotes from Hannah Levintova and Dana Liebelson’s article on how lax gun restrictions for abusers contribute to increased domestic violence. Blumenthal introduced an amendment that would “restrict those under temporary restraining orders from purchasing or possessing a firearm.”
Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) also tweeted the story, referencing her own proposed legislation, the Domestic Violence Survivors Protection Act, which would extend the firearms ban for abusive spouses to dating partners.
