BTW, I just did a Nexis search, and as near as I can tell the pamphlet in question wasn't mentioned a single time between 2006 and last month. In other words, until it became a political football this week, not one single person thought this issue was important to enough to mention even in passing in any news outlet whatsoever. The reason, of course, is that before now no one actually thought this was outrageous. Because it isn't.

One consequence of the nihilistic game the right wing is playing here, is that they're setting back discussions around end-of-life care by decades.
The result of that will be that tens of thousands of very elderly and terminal human beings will spend their final days and months in agony - death by tubes, to no purpose, all dignity lost.

I just had my Fox-watching
I just had my Fox-watching father make a joke about "QALYs," which have been around for decades, and until 3 months ago nobody outside of economics departments had ever heard of. But now every right-winger is convinced they're evidence of a liberal plot.
These guys are so goddamned reckless when it comes to killing people. It's like "fuck, yeah, let's go off to war, and don't worry about the unintended consequences!" and "Hey, we NEED to torture people!"
But when it comes to using the massive power of government to make people's lives suck slightly less? Then they become masters of cautious concern, warning us all in the most lurid terms of the dire consequences that any action, no matter how rational and moderate, will have.
It's completely insane. They're reckless about dangerous gambles, and terrified of safe ones. Seriously, what's our realistic worst-case scenario on healthcare reform? That more people live a little longer and more happily at great expense? How does that compare to the LIKELY scenario on Iraq? Or if we bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran?

These perverts twist and spin to take advantage of people who cannot or will not think for themselves. They have gotten away with murder, literally and figuratively, for far too long, and the Dems won't do much, if anything, to bring them to justice, so... what's a mother to do? Just sit back and let them yell fire in a crowded theater? How long will good people let this go on?
Once a few rightwing pundits, editors, and assorted propagandists feel the pain, things will change... hopefully for the better.
