CA did it to themselves
Like it or not, the blame for where they are now is sqarely on their own shoulders, they got too greedy, siphoned too much money out of the citizens, ended up driving people out of business, didn't tend their borders, have cities that think they're their own states, generally the appearance from outside just isn't that appealing, and the look of the place from the inside has people leaving, leaving behind people that are going to be hard-pressed to make up the difference.
BTW, wasn't CA the world's FIFTH largest economy, just 2 years ago? Hmmmm...
