Liars in Paradise, or Say Goodbye With a Lie, Don Rumsfeld
Conservative columnist David Brooks rarely gets props on MoJoBlog, but during yesterday's Meet the Press — when he commented on Cheney's farewell remarks to Donald Rumsfeld — he hit the nail on the head.

In his regard for our people in uniform, in his unwavering strength through unprecedented challenges, in his example of leadership and patriotic service, I believe the record speaks for itself: Don Rumsfeld is the finest Secretary of Defense this nation has ever had.
Yesterday, Brooks noted that if what Cheney said were true,
Either George Bush is a fool or Dick Cheney is a liar, all right? Because either George Bush just fired at the height of a war, at the greatest national security threat of our country's current era, the greatest secretary of defense in history, or Dick Cheney thinks we're all walking around with a sign that says "Stupid" on it.
Booyakasha! But why not follow the Vice President's advice and let the record speak for itself? Try cross-referencing the Department of Defense's recent homage to Rumsfeld with the Secretary of Defense's many dubious distinctions chronicled in the Mother Jones Iraq War Timeline.

Both are the correct answers: Bush is a fool and Cheney is a liar.
I'm no psychologist, but I'm thinking it's not so much that Cheney thinks we're all walking around with a sign that says "Stupid" on it, rather this sort of megalomaniac has a need to get in people's face with how he's "big and bad" enough to get away with committing blatant crime (like get a life, loser!).
Sad to say it, but the ploitical atmosphere in the USA today parallels the fascist regimes of yesteryear.
Following WWI, the German people had no taste whatsoever for another war (the US and Vietnam), yet Hitler gained their acceptance for more fighting after EASILY capturing territories annexed by treaty after WWI.
First consider how Hitler said to Hearst, "How do you like the way I stole the Jew's factories?"
Then consider Rumsfeld's testimony at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing probing the state of pre-war intelligence, "The administration has not lied or covered up. However, in general, I do believe that when a man commits a crime he should face the bar of justice, he should not be allowed to serve in positions of power in our government, and be hailed as a leader, when the question of his guilt remains unsolved, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN."
Like, "IN YOU FACE STUPID," is that what he meant?
Colin Powell says the US is losing in Iraq, but there are no additional troops to send; meanwhile, a source in the administration is spilling to the BBC that, in fact, more troops "are on their way."
Psychologists say, "We look to the mother," and isn't it disconcerting to think that our society has progressed so feebly that "little boy losers" such as Georgie and Donnie and their like should "get back" at their "stronger" detractors by getting in everyone else's face with their ludicrous distortions of fact, ect., thusly starting a draft that will guarantee a continued enrichment of the mega-arms manufacturers and the oil companies...
if one looks in Bush's and Cheney's dictionary I'll bet the definition of SECRETARY OF STATE is pit-bull. Let the record speak. Let the public speak too.

It's hard to imagine that Cheney was on board with the firing of Rumsfeld. In fact, I'd probably argue that Cheney is more loyal to Rumsfeld than to Bush; Bush was the convenient prop for Cheney and Rumsfeld to gain power. Now that Bush has asserted himself and fired Rumsfeld, Cheney's mad. I think there's some genuine dissension inside the administration.
I believe all of the government politicians tell us we are stupid. I remember, in the 70s, hearing almost daily that we didn't know what was good for us,only the government knew what was best for us. I got mad as hell when I heard it, but now, I believe it! Well not quite all, maybe 98 or 99% of the people are brain dead, brainwashed or just non thinking scared folks that say, oh well, we can't do anything about it anyway. You could hold them accountable under the law! The law against making false official statements is still on the books as far as I've heard. I just hope they don't say Merry Christmas or something like that, it would cause me to worry! Let us show them that we do think! I WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, A HAPPY HOILDAY and A SAFE NEW YEAR!
