The Rise and Fall of Lyndon LaRouche

larouche.jpg If you've always been confused by the Lyndon LaRouche supporters who hand you pamphlets when you coming out of the subway (anyway subway in America, it feels), you should check out Avi Klein's article in the Washington Monthly. Those pamphlets, for many decades, have been the lifeblood of a bizarre movement that has been as ineffective as it has been tenacious.

In the almost forty years since its inception, despite spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a week in operations and annually printing millions of books and magazines, the LaRouche operation has had no significant effect on American politics. It is remarkable in its impotence.

Despite the unrelenting loyalty of his followers, LaRouche has never come remotely close to being elected president. In fact, no LaRouche cadre has been elected to office at any level higher than school board. Nor have his economic theories attained any kind of recognition. The LaRouche-Riemann Method, an economic model that LaRouche calls "the most accurate method of economic forecasting in existence," has gone unnoticed by the social science indexes. Many former members admit to not understanding it.

In one perverse way, of course, the movement did work. For thirty years, Ken Kronberg printed, and all the other members edited and distributed, everything that LaRouche wrote, whether anybody understood it or not. If, in the late hours of the night, LaRouche determined that 50,000 copies of his latest essay on the Treaty of Westphalia needed to be distributed around the country, his followers did their best to oblige.

But no longer. The LaRouche movement is on its last legs. The 2008 election will be the first in 32 years in which LaRouche does not run for president. Share your LaRouche stories in the comments.

Sorry...

In the midst of the worst financial catastrophe in 20 years or more, there are more than 3 dozen city councils around the country including Philadelphia, Newark and others that have endorsed the Home Owner Bank Protection Act of 2008. This is an FDR style far sweeping reform of the banking system, something long overdue. Now that's what he LaRouche movement is doing now. So, really stop retailing the same petty crap I've heard for years. You've become so old you should call yourselves Grandmother Jones.

As a college boy, I've had a fair history with these guys. Real funny guys, really, especially their new masterpiece, "Is the Devil in your Laptop?" Apparently, fact-checking their video game claims means I "defend violent culture."

I have lost my only beloved son and all I know is he was invited to attend a conference of the LaRouche organization and he died five days later. This man who is a convicted criminal heads this organization. If they cared about humanity they would have invited the parents right into the organization offices and let us speak to the people last with Jeremiah. Instead of which they have published lies about me and about my son and also have done everything possible including spreading lies to the authorities saying they dont want a full investigation. Why? what are they afraid of? Every minute of every day of every hour of every week I wish that my son had never come across this destructive cult recruiting on the streets of Paris. My son is dead and I want to know who is responsible for the circumstances that led to his death? would not any mother want to know that? Why do I receive letters from families from all over the world that show me the deepest suffering from fathers and mothers who have seen how LaRouche and his organization have robbed them of their children. This man has caused unbelievable suffering to so many. ITs no joke to put out conspiracy theories to young people. He is no joke. He is a danger to the individual.

Ted Andromidas? Last time I heard of liong time cult member Ted ANdromidas he was either busyb washing pots and pans and cooking for the much younger Larouche youth or he was being madea fool of by a blog called "the Ditzy Democrats.

Seriously Ted, you and your brother have blown almost 40 years each providing Lyn with a great life and keeping this crazed cult going. When will you get it Ted. Lyn sent 13 million dollars to scam artists who fed his delusions. You great pal Rev Bevel, Lyn's VP candidate is accused of incest.

Ken Kronberg was attacked every day by Lyn and the cult last year and threw himself off of an overpass in Leesburg.

Everyone should check out an article by Ted's broether Dean where he says that Al Gore is a Nazi becuase he had native plants planted in the VP residence at the US Naval Observatory when he was the VP. Seriously Ted has blown nearly 40 years in this cult and is till cluthcing to this delusion while his cult master Larouche had a great run lving a luxury life.

How much money did you and the cult repay to our victims we stole money from friend?

check out

A few Februarys ago, on the street outside my shop, my partner and I noticed two people standing at a folding card table in front of the Court House. They were shivering in the cold as they tried to interest passersby in their pamphlets. The poster taped to the front of the card table said: "We've Been Bush-Wacked!" Sharing that particular sentiment, we went over and chatted. The woman was very passionate, used lingo right of the 1960's revolution culture, like, for instance: "We've got to get this cat out of the White House, man! This cat's crazy!" Her more passive male counterpart was a good foil for her energetic tude. I agreed on principle -Cheney and Bush are dickheads - so we donated ten bucks and filled out a questionnaire. A friend of ours, older and more cynical, wandered from his restaurant down the street, eyeballed the activity for a few minutes, then shook his head and retreated. A short time later, I noticed from the window of my shop, that a cop had come to tell them to pack it up - they needed a permit or something. Of course it was Lyndon LaRouche supporters and shortly after, upon looking it up on line, I realized that here was the crackpot end of liberal. They harassed me tirelessly for a month or so for more donations or just to call and talk about Lyndon's latest notion. I asked to be taken off all their call and email lists and eventually they went away. Still, I felt like such a dupe. Can still recall my friend the restaurateur giving me that squiggle-eyed look as he walked away. Oh well, live and learn. It was ten bucks, a few nuisance calls, and a story.

The "Lyn Marcus" posting was posted by a former member from New York who used to go around doing "Pickups and drop offs" collecting checks from supporters and dropping off literature. He was asked to do this because he had great difficulty, it seems, in face to face discussions with people about politics, philosophy and life in general.

One of the most notable things about XLCERs like the one signed Lyn Marcus, is their perverse, childish fixation on the organization for even years after leaving. My God at this time in history moving from one facsist administration to the possiblity of another...how petty.

I also find it fascinating that mother jones permits violation of community rules in this case.

This week, April 1, the city of Philadelphia will begin a moratorium on all foreclosures within the cities limits. Philadelphia was among the first cities to endorse the Home Owner and Bank Protection Act of 2007, as authored by Lyndon LaRouche. This resolution has been introduced into dozens of legislatures and city councils and endorsed by well over 75 city councils. This is a real "LaRouche" issue. Not the petulant snottiness of an aging 60 year old looser who doesn't demonstrate the courage to use his real name.

Come on Paul...as they say...get a life other than XLCER for Life.

The Larouche mouvement is the most dangerous cult I've known in 40 years. I am happy it's fading out since they are no longer going to use my tax money to run for the White House. Their guru is a crook, a conspiracy theorist that publishes any garbage that can't be verified or corroborated. I am surprised that people waste their time to read his garbage.

It seems to me that Ted Andromidas is violating Community Rules in inferring that XLCR had problems and then sharing them with us all.

As for people's fixation with the LaRouche org years after dropping out, you can't say that of me, Ted. After all, it's my husband who threw himself off an overpass--14 months ago.

If you think I'm obsessed by the LaRouche org, Ted, you are SOOO right.

If you want to advise me to "get a life," let me point out that my life now has a lot to do with getting justice for Ken, who was treated abominably by LaRouche et al.

If you want to tell the world I voted for Bush in 2004, and that's why Ken killed himself three years later, go to it. Or you can tell them that LaRouche says I've been a Government agent since at least 1988. But Ken waited 19 years to kill himself for that...

The real point is that LaRouche is an ill-educated autodidact with megalomaniacal aspirations, a malignant narcissist and a mean, mean man.

And I knew him better than you ever did, Ted.

And I'm using my name.

The banking thing may be worth something indeed; however, it does not take away from the entirely insane organization and the rants of its senile leader, nor from the impoverishment forced upon its underlings, the unexplained deaths of Kronberg and Duggan, the bizarre flipflops in political orentation, the consorting with criminals for cash, the backing of warlords of African countries, the foaming at the mouth at the Queen of England. And its defender in a Mother Jones letter column? The brutal little foulmouth known as Ted Andromidas. Still running at the mouth, defending LaRouche, believing your life serving LaRouche is something other than serving a senile con artist. How many years has it been? You and Harley Schlanger are still in. Waiting for Lyn to kick it? I bet you still take off your glasses with that melodramatic oratorical flourish and do that same trite Hamlet quotation routine. My goodness. Too late to back out? At least XLC did. Now he has a family. What do you have?

Sorry, never heard of Demetrias Skoulis but one thing I have never accused of is being "foul mouthed", therefore, I doubt we have met. Now, I can be nasty with mis-educated philistines, who couldn't carry an idea across the room with a forklift.

You sound like one of those.

Now Molly, for over a decade you have ridiculed and vilified LaRouche. I was there, at gatherings, where you did that. So, using your name means little or nothing. The more interesting question for me is, why DID you hang around? What was the point? Why did you live on a paycheck provided by an organization, and those affiliated with it, that you have so despised for 19 years. Really, cut it out>

Pardon the sloppy edidting: "Sorry, never heard of Demetrias Skoulis but one thing I have never accused of is being "foul mouthed", should read: "Sorry, never heard of Demetrias Skoulis but one thing I have never BEEN accused of is being "foul mouthed",

This is great! Ted, tell this to the members who pick up the checks from supporters whom you raise money from.

There is a 'least' one member in each local who does the "pick up and drop offs" because they no longer want to 'organize' and raise funds. Here Mr. Andromidas is making fun of a former member, but does he realize he is also insulting his current members.

P.S. I chose to omit my name because of the long track record of very mean and inapropriate slander by Lyndon LaRouche and his associates.

Ted Andromidas: I stayed in the LaRouche organization because Ken (Ken Kronberg, my late husband, the subject of Avi Klein's "Publish and Perish" article) wanted me to.

However, I didn't "live on a paycheck provided by [the] organization"--I never got a paycheck from the organization after 1986, and Ken never got a paycheck from the organization after 1978.

As to my vilifying LaRouche at social gatherings--of course I attacked LaRouche for years, and events have shown just how right I was. In particular, the death of my husband, driven to suicide by LaRouche and his associates, as Avi Klein's article intimates.

The LYM did not invent the Home Owner Bank Protecton Act, except in the sense that members told people that their donation for some magic-bullet economic plan LaRouche had up his sleeve that was going to save the world. He didn't. Countless people lives have been lost and the ones that were spared will be haunted for the rest of their days. Stop defending him.
