Bush Still Peddling Progress in Iraq. Sigh.
I'm not sure why it never gets old to bring attention to Bush's constant reiteration that we are freedom fighters and that Iraq is making progress. Maybe because the further along we get in this quagmire, the more absurd these comments become. This from a press conference with French president Nicholas Sarkozy held this afternoon:
If you lived in Iraq and had lived under a tyranny, you'd be saying: God, I love freedom, because that's what's happened...we're making progress.
Well, according to our figures, more than 4 million of these thankful Iraqis have fled this newfound freedom.

That was done by Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland to end the debate!
Rep. Kucinich, an Ohio Democrat and presidential candidate, was the chief backer of the impeachment resolution."]

Everyone falters and it's okay if they do and there are all those State Department guys hanging around getting checks and, you know, if something happens no one is really gonna worry or nothin, if, an Iraqi just doesn't feel well and, kinda, makes some mistakes with some gentec bioterror or a gun or something and, you know.....................

Warmongers fear success

What I'm really sick and tired of though, is this perpetual whining about how occupation opponents want the mission to fail. It's not only false but it's silly. Our position has already been validated years ago. Everything we predicted came true. It's the pro-occupation keyboardists who have something to prove and everything to lose. Seems to me it's the warmongers, who while they may not cheering for failure, are the most afraid of winning. Victory would mean the end of the 'war' and unless the occupation continues -- they've got nothing.

At least from a grammatical perspective, I actually think this was the most egregious line of that press conference:
"But freedom's happening in Iraq."
It is strange, during any War before Vietnam, if you Leftwing Nuts were talking about and pushing for us to loose a war, you would be prosecutred for TREASON, and HUNG..!!! Maybe they should raid the MOVEON.org H.Q> and hang them from the trees out front... HUH..? Then maybe you people would fall back in line and support YOUR leader, and not try and ruin our country..

President Bush has stated that Musharraf should not be president and in charge of the military at the same time. Well, Bush may not be wearing a uniform, but as Commander-In-Chief, he is certainly President and also in charge of our military at the same time! Not only that, he has seen fit to use a private army (Blackwater) to help conduct his foreign policy in Iraq. The same Blackwater was also used in New Orleans after Katrina to help institute and maintain what amounted to martial law.
It is ironic that the viewing public is supposed to suspend thought and put our brains on hold while the mainstream media discusses the offenses being committed by a dictatorship in Pakistan. Our own government has acted similarly in the past at such places as Sand Creek, Washita, Wounded Knee, Ludlow, Selma, Chicago (1968), Kent State, Ruby Ridge, and Waco. Not to mention the radiological testing of U.S. citizens by government sponsored scientists (see "The Plutonium Files"), in violation of the Nuremburg Code.
Therefore, it is hypocritical of Bush to wave a finger at Musharraf for suspending their constitution while Bush does exactly that with our own constitution by using illegal wire taps without court order, suspension of Habeas Corpus, "Rendition," and torture against the Geneva Convention, not to mention violating the U.N. Charter by lying his way into Iraq. These acts detract from whatever credibility remains of our national character.
It is very difficult to be critical of others and to represent "The Light On The Hill" for others to follow when we are setting such an undemocratic example. It's like a parent who says to a child: "Do as I say, not as I do."
