Obama and Clinton in Withdrawal Talks
CNN is reporting that the Clinton and Obama camps are holding "formal meetings" about Hillary Clinton's withdrawal from the Democratic primary. The report is sourced almost entirely to Clinton insiders — the Obama folks are denying unequivocally that talks are occurring — and they appear to see three scenarios:
(1) Obama chooses someone other than Clinton as vice president. The Clinton people consider this "totally unacceptable" and akin to "open civil war within the party." If it were to happen, Clinton's campaigning for Obama in the general would be "quite aloof."
(2) Obama publicly offers the VP spot to Clinton, which she would then reject.
(3) The candidates talk personally and hammer out a solution. Clinton gets her debt covered or gets Obama's support in a later run for Senate Majority Leader.
Video:
If you look at this from a strategic point of view, the Clinton insiders are playing this masterfully. Two things are accomplished by leaking their terms to the press while the Obama camp sits silent. First, the idea of Clinton as VP becomes much more palatable. People who weeks ago were thinking, "No way, she's been too divisive. She doesn't understand his core message" are probably now thinking, "Fine, just give it to her. Let's move on already." Second, this probably explains why Clinton is ratcheting up the rhetoric on Michigan and Florida and planning to bus supporters to DC for the Rules & Bylaws meeting. All of it is like a gun to Obama's head in these negotiations. "Look how much damage we can do if we don't get our way, Mr. Obama."
Update: Clinton camp is denying the report.

It would be political suicide for Obama to offer the VP position to Clinton. He needs someone who can inspire, has integrity and can bring people together, qualities which Clinton seriously lacks. I don't care what the Clinton people want - she lost!! Get over it! Let's move on.
Obama will crash and burn in November with his pie in the sky, hocus pocus "hope, inspiration, change." Sen. Clinton should stay off the ticket and allow this to happen if the nomination is swiped from her.
The superdelegates need to show wisdom, integrity and courage in selecting her as the best qualified, strongest candidate to defeat McCain and win the general election hands down. In the best interests of the Democratic Party and America, Obama should get on board for the VP position.
Yes to Clinton/Obama - No vote for Obama/Clinton.
For a very long time, I have been in favor of former general Wes Clark for vice president. He would bring in the foreign policy and military credentials that some people say that Obama lacks. Also, since he has been a Hillary Clinton supporter, his selection by Obama would be a way to send a reconciliation message to her supporters.
You're exactly right. It is a gun to Obama's head. And that's exactly the kind of behavior that makes it so painfully clear she would be a terrible VP pick. Look how manipulative she is in driving her own agenda! Look how short-sighted she is in alienating the Florida & Michigan voters by accenting the "tragedy" of their votes not being cast?
It would be so easy for the DNC to paint this as a rotten decision that Florida and Michigan's Republican legislatures made at the price of their citizens' enfranchisement. Instead, HRC feels the need to make this a dividing point between herself and Obama. That kind of short-sighted divisiveness displays her lack of vision when it comes to a post in an Obama administration.
If you factor in all the racial crap, having HRC on the ticket may be the smart move. She may help bring all the people over who would not vote for an African-American. It may be a gun to his head, but they have been the two front runners all along...who better to continue?
NO to Hillary as VP. Obama would have Hill and Bill stealing the limelight all the time.
I second the Wesley Clark as VP.

I also say "no" to paying of her debt. Obama would basically be paying off the money she spent attacking him.
I wouldn't vote for an Obama/Clinton OR a Clinton/Obama ticket. I'll go third party if that happens.
FPN: Although it's a little vague in the blog, Obama can't pay off Hillary's loans - his funds were raised for his campaign and that's all he can legally spend it on. He can, however, make joint fundraising appearances with her and encourage the party loyal to contribute so she can get it cleared.
crat3 it appears you do not have a real job. I see you everywhere writing really negative stuff. I bet you will never give your real name.
If Hillary is VP, it would be back to the old days when the VP didn't actually run things. She could concentrate on things like health care where she could actually get some of her good ideas through, and serve as a symbol of the rise of women, but not really make much difference otherwise. Or ... she could use the office to try to undermine Obama and set up her own run in the next election. Like, I said, back to the old days.
The hell with the Clinton's. Obama's whole campaign has been about hope and change. Any positives she might bring as the vp nominee would be trumped by all her and Bill's baggage and ruin that message. She has also been acting like a spoiled, elitist, brat. There may be a minority of people in the Clinton camp who may not support Obama, but saner minds will.
Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Greatgrand Nation, the United States of America,
is facing and will face very critical, substantial
"Challenges" in the coming months, years, and decades.
It is imperative that we the people of the America
become interested, involved, and engaged in choosing
and voting for our next President.
The following criteria will guide and help us to a
right candidate. The candidate we choose must have
following characteristics:
1. A clear, candid " Vision and Mission" for our
Nations present and future.
2. A " Strong Character and significant
Integrity".
3. A sound and sustained "Presidential Temperament"
and " Judgment".
4. Less "Washington exposure" and "real
connectivity with the people and future
generation".
5. One who "Inspires us up" rather than
"Tears us Down or divides us".
6. One who is not based on sexism,
racism, regionalism, ageism, or any other ism and as
well as one who attempts to " bring us together ".
7. A foreign policy of mainly "USA Centric".
In my professional, political and personal opinion,
the only candidate that meets all the above
characteristics and has shown consistent
coolness, calmness, and connectedness { PRESIDENTIAL
TEMPERAMENT } is Senator Barack Obama.
As an independent registered voter since 1980, I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and in the process lost
interest in Washington politics to the point where i
stopped voting. Getting disinterested and disgusted in
our political process and stopping voting was a very
very bad decision in any circumstance, particularly
under present circumstances.
This time we can not afford to stay on the sidelines
and let "Washington" stay the same. We can not afford
to allow our Greatgrand Nation to become less than
what we are, what we were and what we can be.
We need to send a clear, careful and candid message to
the world and sometimes 24-hour partisan divisive
media, that We the American people will set the agenda
for our future. America and Americans will be back.
These partisan media outlets are trying and will try
their best to deprive, decieve, dupe, and derail us.
Let us stay involved, engaged, and express our opinion
freely and vote. Our Nation will get it right this
time
to protect, preserve, and promote our future.
Some of these partisan media and pundits are trying
their best to deny us a better future and continue
focusing on our weaknesses to generate a bitter future
for us and our Greatgrand Nation. Our nation's people
will see thru. Unfortunately our Greatgrand Nation's
people are persistently and constantly subjected to
this "Psychological Terrorism" without common people's
knowledge.
The common and regular people do not have time to see
thru and sort thru this psychological terrorism
perpetuated by some of these partisan media outlets.
I find it tragic, unfortunate, and sad [ They probably
do not care about our Greatgrand Nation ]as they claim
that they do it in the interest OF our Greatgrand
Nation.
We the Americans should not and will not to allow
some of these partisan media outlets to
psychologically
terrorize, traumatize and silence us this time nor
any other time in future.
I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama as our next President.
Let us remember that our Greatgrand nation consists of
family, friends,fellowships, faith, funds,foundation,
fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without
fear, favor, or failure .
We can not afford to lose any of the above. Let us
stand up, be counted, save and rebuild our Greatgrand
Nation for centuries to come. I am sure our Greatgrand
nation andits diverse people. will reclaim, regain and
restore the global economic, social, moral, and power
status of USA.
God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse
people.
Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future
stability, security, safety,sustained progress and
restoration of our due status in this perilous Global
World at all levels.
Yours sincerely,

Well, that's how George Bush won the election in 2000. He just started pretending he was already elected. Rove saw it as a winning stategy; why shouldn't Axelrod?
This post is just so much hearsay, debasing democracy to simplistic suppositions.
Sebelius or Hagel for Veep. Noooooo Hillary.
John Edwards for VP.
NO to Hillary Clinton for President.
NO to Hillary Clinton for VP.
NO to Hillary Clinton holding any government office in representation of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION.
The Clinton's are RIGHT WINGER'S and must represent the RIGHT, because they don't represent the LEFT. The Clinton's and all wannabe purpleites go RIGHT --- purple is found on the RIGHT.
EXTREMIST George W. Bush was RIGHT WING selected -- not elected --- fraudulent electronic voting machine were used both times.
John McCain is another George W. Bush.
