The VP Frustrations of John McCain
Joe Klein reports over at Swampland that McCain's top three choices for VP, according to a source Klein trusts, are all automatic non-starters.
1. Former Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania--McCain loves the guy, I'm told, and Ridge might bring Pa. into the Republican fold...but he's pro-choice. Fuggedaboutit.
2. Former Governor Jeb Bush of Florida--Ahhh, Florida. But, oy, that last name.
3. Senator Mel Martinez of Florida---Ahh, Florida....and brings Latinos, too! But born in Cuba, so ineligible for the office.
The same goes for McCain's top sidekicks, Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham. The first is technically an Independent Democrat and thus a big believer in choice and the second is dogged by persistent rumors about his sexuality.

I don't think Lindsay Graham has an orientation issue-- don't you mean Charlie Crist? Or is Sen. Graham's sexual identity also suspect??
Sorry-- didn't see the link. Wow, lots of republicans in the closet!!
Ooooh. McCain/Jeb Bush would be awesome!
I have no way of knowing if it is true or not, but rumor has it that obama is quite frustrated that stalin, castro and chavez are not available.
OOOOh -yo!
You are good!
Tricky little hobbit troll, I just laughed and laughed!
silly boy.
I think McCain may just get smart and go with Alaska Gov. Palin. Fierce conservative, very pro-life, and has her own "Maverick" credentials. Don't expect her to steal the bulk of women's votes just because she has a uterus. But as this article points out, it's not like McCain is overwhelmed with great choices in the VP selection. This pick at least keeps the base happy, will lead to a lot of positive "Who is Palin?" press, and gives him a shot at the Indies.
