Hamdan Taken Out of Bush's Hands
Salim Hamdan, convicted earlier this week of providing material support for terrorism (a.k.a. being Osama bin Laden's driver), has been sentenced to five and a half years. Because he'll get credit for time served, he could be released in as few as six months. The government asked for 30 years of prison time.
The Bush Administration, which plays by a set of rules that exist only in its collective brain, made it clear before the verdict that it was prepared to continue detaining Hamdan even if he was found not guilty. Presumably, a Bush White House would keep Hamdan locked up well past the six month mark. But half a year of jail means that Hamdan is essentially John McCain or Barack Obama's responsibility — statements from both explaining how they would handle Hamdan's detention would be very interesting.

More interesting, however, would be how they would handle the many other "enemy combatants" that the US has detained, of whom presumably some are more dangerous than truck driver who dared to drive trucks in order to feed his kids.
For the love of G**, the Nazi truck drivers probably bore responsibility but I don't remember hanging them at Nuremberg ...
This is a disgrace. Could someone please put a bullet in the back of this man's head?
Pure speculation:
Given that the military judges knew all of this in advance, what is to say they did not plan it perfectly to get it out of the Bush Adm.'s hands? Six years, when the defense asked for four, and the prosecution asked for 30 to life? Coincidence? Or an honest decision that this guy had, for whatever he had done, served appropriately long enought, but which took into account that a Bush government would not accept the verdict? Add to that the military judges' words, expressing hope that he would soon return to his wife and kids.
If so, that would an impressive feat of justice.
And R.H., the only disgrace is that our government wasted so much time and energy going after a driver with no education instead of the real masterminds of attacks against civilians ...
I think the Ragin' Hillbilly must be referring to putting a bullet in the back of Bush's head.
We do not condone violence.
Are you s***heads really so naive to think that Hamdan was only a low level nobody?
They should have sent him to the gallows.
