We May See Jeremiah Wright Yet
I've long assumed that this campaign would get really ugly in its final weeks. Today, HuffPost finds evidence that my premonition will come to pass.
Here's McCain campaign manager Rick Davis speaking to a conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt late last week:
Look, John McCain has told us a long time ago before this campaign ever got started, back in May, I think, that from his perspective, he was not going to have his campaign actively involved in using Jeremiah Wright as a wedge in this campaign.
Now since then, I must say, when Congressman Lewis calls John McCain and Sarah Palin and his entire group of supporters, fifty million people strong around this country, that we're all racists and we should be compared to George Wallace and the kind of horrible segregation and evil and horrible politics that was played at that time, you know, that you've got to rethink all these things.
And so I think we're in the process of looking at how we're going to close this campaign. We've got 19 days, and we're taking serious all these issues.
Shorter Rick Davis: if we're going to be accused of being racists, we might as well be racists.

Jon, don't accuse Jews of being racist. We have real concerns about Obama's dedication to preserving the special relationship with Israel. We know that McCain/Palin is on board. Just look at what Jesse Jackson said. The Reverend Jesse Jackson said of Obama that the most important change would occur in the Middle East, where "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would end.
Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House.
Jackson is especially critical of President Bush's approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
"Bush was so afraid of a snafu and of upsetting Israel that he gave the whole thing a miss," Jackson says. "Barack will change that," because, as long as the Palestinians haven't seen justice, the Middle East will "remain a source of danger to us all."
"Barack is determined to repair our relations with the world of Islam and Muslims," Jackson says. Sheldon Adelson has given a large sum of money to the McCain campaign. We just don't trust Obama.
Ari, please don't presume to speak for all Jews, or even most Jews. Many of us will happily vote for Obama and aren't so gullible and dense as to think that McCain actually gives a crap about us. Republicans will care about Jews as soon as we all admit we killed Mr. Jesus and convert to Christianity. And just because Jackson claims these things about Obama doesn't make them true. And what does this have to do with the post, anyway?
Re: Rick Davis - apparently "how we're going to close this campaign" is in a despicable and reprehensible steaming pile of b.s. But what else is new?
Racist? Please, call me anything but politician-they are not only not racist but you can add amoral, pragmatic about getting money anyway they can get it, and will do anything unless it gets caught on one of those lousy I-phones!It really doesn't matter what you believe or don't believe in as long as you have a "Good" image! I often wonder how many politicians have their "Dorian Gray" picture in a locked backroom somewhere to remind them of the person they used to be before years of compromise and betrayal made them into what they are today! The main reason I am voting for Obama is that he hasn't been in the system too long! Hope he gets out before he too becomes one of "Them!"
Go ahead, bring up Wright. We'll top that with Palin's witchhunting pastor in Alaska and the TV preacher nuts whose endorsements McCain sought. We'll see who has more and nuttier pastors.
Ari, why are you linking Jesse Jackson's drivel to Barack Obama? This is the same Jackson who very recently said he wanted to cut Obama's testicles off. Way before you worry about Obama bringing Jackson's anti-Israel fantasies to life, Obama was already worrying about Jackson going pure nutso and attacking him physically. Get a grip.
John McCain's sought out the endorsement of John Hagee, who says Jews deserved the Holocaust as punishment for their crime of trying to live outside Israel. The implication of this is NOT lost on American Jews today. Sarah Palin's witchdoctor says "Israelites" control the U.S. economy and banking industry.
The GOP is the party of Jew-hatred, cloaked behind large donations to the Israeli army so that nation can be kept in good condition until the time comes for Holocaust 2: The Rapture, when every Jew must die. This is MAINSTREAM social-conservative opinion, and the reason an overwhelming majority of American Jews vote Democratic and always always will.
TTT, what you said is just propaganda, it is not true at all. Usually 90% of Jews vote Democratic for President. This time it is down to around 50/50. I wonder why?
