What Do Obama's Foreign Policy Appointments Tell Us About Future of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict?

Depends on if you're considering General James Jones, likely National Security Advisor in the upcoming Obama Administration, or Senator Hillary Clinton, likely Secretary of State. Their professional histories send conflicting messages about Obama's intentions in the region. Check out Eli Lake in TNR for more.

Israel's Capital Hill settlement of pro-Israel lobbies and think tanks strategically controls the high ground overlooking the United States' Middle East policy landscape by having made kibbutzniks of most members of the executive and legislative branches of the government?including President-elect Obama, Vice President-elect Biden (a wannabe Zionist), and future Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel (a born Zionist).
Obama's silence regarding the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe threatening the lives of Palestinians is both deafening and telling of the price he's willing to pay to maintain his status as kibbutznik-in-good-standing in Israel's westernmost hilltop settlement.

Obama's unconditional support for Israel's policy of "self defense," preemptive attacks, and repressive occupations is not one iota different from that of George W. Bush, an internationally recognized war criminal. This is not an encouraging beginning for a man whose battle cry was "change we can believe in."

I agree that Israel should remain even though its inception was flawed and I also agree that the Arab countries tend to blame everything on Israel to the detriment of their own countries...Hezbellah and Hamas have tried to help their people with schools and hospitals and if they would stick to that they might make more progress than going to war...

The Arabs say they want all foreigners out of their countries and this would end their terrorist activities...I think we should get out of Iraq and Afghanistan not because they want us to but because we are wasting lives and effort in the wrong places...If we got out the Arab factions might be so busy fighting amongst themselves that they would not have time to attack USA and other countries..It would be a mess but I think that it would be better than what we have...

The allied armies are built to win desert wars but when we get into jungles and cities we are helpless...This has been proven in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq...

The Arab countries hold us hostage to their oil supplies and the only solution I see is to find new sources of fuel and then get out of their countries as they ask and support Israel and Palestine in their efforts to reach a suitable agreement.because until that is settled the wars will continue..

I fail to see how Arab Kings, Sheikh and other Military Dictators hold us hostages to their oil supply. These dictators are predominately our own creation; thank the CIA. Our oil companies have dragged their feet from developing alternative energy sources primarily due to cheap and profitable Arab oil, up to recently. Besides, despite all what we hear in our corporate media, the Arab oil revenue, by large, ends up in two places: US and European Banks in the form of investment (Which was recently wiped out) and the in Pockets of the corrupt Arab dictators, which in turn ends up hidden in US banks and secret Swiss Bank accounts.

As for the fictitious notion that Arab factions keep killing each others; here is a little fact: Sunnis and Shiites lived side-by-side in Iraq for over 1300 years. They intermarried, intermingled, fought and expelled the British from Iraq in the 1920 revolt. Now here comes Paul Bremer and the US Occupation which segmented Iraq into ethnic parliament, ethnically driven government and regions and thus bred the seed for the recent ethnic hostility. We American have learned valuable lesson from the British: Either divide the Iraqis ethnically or risk having them revolt together against the American Occupation as they did in 1920 against the British.

My comment about Obama and Israel is very simple: During the campaign, Obama's choices were very limited; he had to either submit to AIPAC's blackmail and let Israel dictates his foreign policy, or risks having Rev. Wright, William Ayers, and his infamous picture with the white head turban become permanent fixtures on television screens and the press front pages for the duration of the campaign.

Israel is nothing but an Apartheid State, its creation was based on the notion of religious superiority of the Jews. Israel can practice its ethnic cleansing of Palestinians due to our veto power in the United Nations. Also, thank the Billion of Dollars our Congress grants Israel every year. This grant happens in closed meeting and always without any congressional debate.

So like it or not, the US Congress and the White House are part of the Israeli-Occupied Territories.

Israel promotes NOT a vision of a inclusive "multi-cultural," "multi-ethnic" society (like we do in America) for Israel, but instead a racist exclusionary "Jewish state." It is racist because a Jew is defined as coming from a Jewish mother(genes). That state is openly dedicated to the advancement of the Jewish religion, culture, and even the genetic preservation of the Jewish people. Israel uses racial profiling. Israel values Judaism above other religions. Israel should seek to be welcoming and inclusive and respect all religions, or even those with no religion.
Israeli ethnocentric, chauvinism and xenophobic values are just too extreme. Israel does not share American values and let us therefore not share American taxpayer money with them. Israel needs to advance to the 21st century in its values. The days of racism should be a thing of the past. Israeli society is where America's society was 100 years ago. Israel can do better. Obama should have this as our goal to advance Israel to the 21st century in the field of civil rights.
