In the Shadow of Israel's Security Fence - 06

Wisam Manasra passes a completed section of Israel's separation barrier outside of Bethlehem. Manasra recently became the first member of his family to attend college after he was accepted at a university in Bethlehem. He is unsure if his studies will be interrupted once the barrier is completed. To access Bethlehem, Manasra will have to pass through two tunnels and a guarded checkpoint according to recent plans for the barrier. On a good day, officials estimate the checkpoint alone will take 30 minutes to get through. The entire trip could take hours. Instead of the 30-foot-high concrete wall in other parts of the West Bank, the barrier around Wadi Fukin will be a complex series of electrified fences, razor wire, motion sensors, military patrol roads and trenches up to 300 feet wide.
