Zahn moves CNN even farther to the right
For some time now, CNN has been an effective mouthpiece for the Bush administration, mostly through innuendo, flag-waving, and omission. Now, with Paula Zahn's help, the network's shift ever farther right has become more overt. Media Matters for America has documented several of Zahn's recent stunts, including this one:
In a conversation with Paul Begala, Zahn said:
But security is still going to be a huge issue in this country, and whether you like it or not, you've got a lot of people out there saying, if you're Republican, we're going to keep the country safe, you know, if you vote for a Democrat, that basically you want to be bombed.
Media Matters has also documented Zahn's cheerleading for Rush Limbaugh. According to Media Matters' records, in the last six weeks, Zahn has aired clips from the Rush Limbaugh Show five times, and on three of those occasions, she offered no countering argument.
Zahn has often used Republic talking points, referring to Social Security privatization as "Social Security reform," announcing that Sojourners "admitted" it was a liberal publication, and "confronted" Al Franken with "lying" when he joked that he was writing a book about abstinence education.
The irony is that when Zahn was on Fox News, she was, more often than not, articulate and insightful--the only one on Fox who went beyond the surface of the issues being discussed.

Sometimes she does challenge equally, and we see flashes of the old Paula Zahn.
The argument being made by Media Matters against what she did in her conversation with Begala is that there are so many ways she could have put it, but she chose to select the most extreme right-wing insult to make her example. That is the kind of thing she does.

I'll have to keep my eye of her on an on-going basis. I guess I was asleep at the wheel.
Still, who has to be worse than Paula? Wolf Blitzer, that's who. When Richard Clark was being attacked by the White House after his book was released, Blitzer was there repeating the WH talking points ad naseaum.

This is why I try not to watch TV news at all anymore. I go to the Internet to get my news.

Although I was not a big fan of Aaron Brown, I find it stunning that CNN would dump a person who is at least a legitmate journalist to keep Paula Zahn--a twinkie if I ever saw one.
I miss Ted Turner...

i like cnn but yes this bathers me alot. look at whats going on now with bush and his people . i just cant believe it. bush has comitted wor crimes . and we act like he did nothing , cnn has disapointed me . clenton would have been stred at the stake. 99% of our people no if theres no oil there we would not be there. ogier johns

Aaron Brown was dumped because he was too honest, too interested in news, and wouldn't spew conservative lies.
Paula Zahn was a RW hack at FOX and is a RW hack at CNN (which is run by an ultra RW corporation)
If Begala had any balls he would have responded by A) Attacking the RW bias of Zahn and CNN by asking her to cite names on the spot and; B) Explain to people that Republicans have always been failures on national security and don't keep people safe (list the examples). Then C) tell the people how Republicans view troops as "staff pukes" (Rush's words) whom they're willing to send to die for corporate profits. Then D) tell the examples of how Democrats led in the past and how, unlike Bush, Bin laden would have been dead long ago if Gore was President.
but BEgala likes the paycheck from CNN so wishful thinking on my part.

At least with some journalists like Aaron Brown, you can begin to weigh and then filter news content and apply common sense and compare stories-but with the chris matthews and paula zahn types, you get inaccurate, bias news nearly all the time, which only fuels frustration at which point a serious news watcher is left with only one option: turn it off.
Posted by: lyn on 02/04/06 at 6:21 AM
It's all about the numbers.
King, Zahn, and Mr. Wolf are all RW hacks. CNN is going from trusted to just another hack network.

Why is anyone surprtsed by Zahn's comments? Does everyone forget that this woman miraculously appeared at CNN on September 11th 2001 to be one of the faces of CNN's reporting team after serving as a talking head at FOX News?
Paula Zahn is a mole, a stooge for the right-wing as much as Hannity is a stooge, she just looks better doing it. This woman is not an objective journalistg anymore than is Limbaugh's squeeze, and CNN talking head, Dara Kagan.
Far from being the "Clinton News Network," CNN has morphed into a FOX-Lite mode. Even Christiane Amanpour has changed.
It's a damn shame.

Paula Zahn is soaked in evil. I remember when there was a hawk that lived on one of the buildings her husband owns, and fascinated bird-watchers from all over NYC came to see this hawk that made the city its home.
Evil Paula Zahn and her evil husband had the bird removed, because they have no souls. These people are Bush-worshippers.

Don't waste your time watching network news. Tune in to Link TV and FSTV (Free Speech TV), and any other alternative press, like Mother Jones & Utne Reader.
Part of the Right Wing's long term plan to take control of this country includes taking over the media...and they have done an excellent job of it, so that all we are getting out of the mainstream media now is propaganda for war, and for the rape of the planet by multinational corporations, not to mention the insidious incitement to fear, in order to erode our democratic rights. Whatever happened to a government of the people, by the people, & for the people?
We should all be very wary now about trusting any of the Bush administration (their record of lies and deceit is just too vast), and most of our Senators and Congressmen (who are bought and paid for by the huge, multinational greed factories intent on getting theirs, as the planet goes down in a putrid ball of pollution.) It's time (in fact we are way overdue) for a huge grassroots uprising to take back our country! We need to find a way to overhaul our government before it's too late, as every action they take brings us closer to either a speedy demise in the form of nuclear holocaust, or a slower, more painful demise in the form of increased and ongoing terrorism, and planetary eco-system breakdown, as the system becomes more and more toxic. We are not the policeman of the planet. All decisions about a nation's status in this world should be made by the United Nations, not by the USA...we are the rogue nation, building more nuclear weapons all the time, while forbidding anyone else to have them. And sending our troops to countries all over the world to carry out our agenda of controlling their resources. It's clear to most of us that no one should have nuclear weapons, and even the peaceful energy technology that comes from uranium is way too dangerous to think of using long term. We have no real good way to dispose of the waste, as the planet becomes more and more contaminated. Global warming is very real, as is the poisoning of our drinking water, ground water, & food stores....we need a speedy return to strict government regulation of all these industries world wide. Governments are supposed to protect the rights of the people, not take them away.
We need to change the channel; and imeach the incompetent, deceitful, hypocritical, megalomaniac in the White House.

I'm not surprised about the latest flap over Paula Zahn. I realized early on in the propaganda/ news build up to the war on Iraq that she was horribly biased when she made a little snide quip about Hans Blix being unable to find the WMD's. Talk about sneaky editorializing instead of doing the news! Well that just about finishes TV news for me.

The right wing has our media in it's dirty little hands. We are heading toward a one-party system partly because of this media bias and misinformation. Every thinking person needs to start boycotting these biased news shows and their adveritisers. Elections can and will be stolen, but they can take our money only if we let them. Vote with your pocketbooks.

Honestly, who cares? What do you expect when you watch for profit "news." CNN is just a slightly different flavor than Faux "News."
If you want REAL news told from the perspective of the people, look to Amy Goodman over at www.DemocracyNow.org or take a look at www.BuzzFlash.com or www.RawStory.com. Turn off and tune out all of the corporate "news" outlets and see what you've been missing and what real news is all about.

I did not find Aaron Brown to be much different from Blitzer, Zahn, or the rest of them. He did seem to have moments of awareness, but they were few and far between. CNN and MSNBC are both parrots for the White House, in my opinion.
And wishing sexual violence on a woman is far worse than anything Zahn has done to the rest of us.

This is the same Paula Zahn who hosted a fund raiser for George Bush Sr. Impartiallity is not her strong suit. But then again, impartiallity doesn't seem to be a pre-requisite for American journalists these days.

Paula Zahn is married to a neocon and that's why she is getting to sound more like michelle malkin everyday. Malkin as you should know is married to a lazy neocon who stays home to write her speeches.

we need to stop watching and buying, and start spreading the word of boycotting the major media outlets and their major corporate sponsors. the worm is not going to turn in this country until we help it, any way we can. keep talking at work and at play; keep telling our elected sycophants we're on to them. it's not gonna change overnight, but we gotta at least tell people that democracy is dead in America and that the 4th estate is gone; it's now, almost 100%, made up of the same billionairs who run the white house, the congress and, of course, the judges. why should THEY start doing journalism? it'll cost them big dollars. BOYCOTT the bastards!

Bill, it appears you are not with the protester who carried a sign that said "Get a brain, morans!" He is now the poster boy for the right wing.
Posted by: Diane on 02/06/06 at 7:44 AM
That should have said "not familiar with"
(Perhaps I, too, have become a moran.)
Posted by: Diane on 02/06/06 at 7:45 AM
By the way, I apologize for the typos in my post. (I don't wish to be taken for a "moran", either.) My typing is not up to par, but I hope my thought processes are.

Hmm.
1) If I'm Paul Begala, I'm grateful for the question, phrased just as it is. It gives me the opportunity to differentiate an /intelligent/ foreign policy from an imperialistic and militaristic foreign policy.
2) Can you contrast that with questions that Paula Zahn has asked of, say, Ken Mehlman? Is it not the job of the Fourth Estate to challenge? As long as/if she challenges equally, I'm good with it.
