Civil War? Who you gonna believe—me or your lyin' eyes?
From the annals of perception-management (WP):
"What we've seen is a serious effort by them to foment civil war, but I don't think they've been successful."
--Dick Cheney on CBS's Face the Nation
"We are losing a day as an average 50 to 60 people throughout the country, if not more. If this is not civil war, then God knows what civil war is."
--Former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi (who is of course no more a disinterested party than is Cheney, but who does seem to have the evidence rather more on his side) talking to the BBC.

I wouldn't say "no one" remembers these little facts; apologists for this criminally inept war trot them out all the time, conveniently forgetting that they figured not at all in the administration's decision to smash Iraq to bits.

Correct, these facts aren't the only reason for taking Saddam, our own self interests are. But when appeasers trot out every death in Iraq like it's America's fault I have to remind them about reality, or you can sit back and wait for another 9/11 to remind you.

I'd like to see you develop that argument -- how the national self-interest is served by our involvement in Iraq. And remind me again, what does Iraq have to do with 9/11?
Posted by: sleepofreason on 03/21/06 at 11:31 AM
I don't think Iraq was directly involved with 9/11. Iraq was a separate although as serious an issue. Bush never said we were going to Iraq in response to 9/11. What has happened though is that Al qaida has decided t oattack US forces in Iraq during and after Saddam removed, and that is why there is a reference to 9/11 and Iraq.

It's important to remember that the Bush administration has direct responsibility for each and every person who died in the 9/11 attacks. We should also remember that Saddam has no connection to any terrorist activity within U.S. borders; however, Bush's associates in Saudi Arabia have a well-documented connection to the 9/11 attacks.

In what way does the Bush administration bear direct responsibility?
And although Iraq didn't have a direct involvement in 9/11, don't be so naive to think they had nothing to do with terrorism affecting the US

End the genocide in Darfur
Every day, Darfuris face rape, murder, and starvation. Be a Voice for Darfur: tell Obama to end the suffering.

The United States had over 16,000 murders last year.
8 times that number of felonious assault cases.
We are not in a war zone. Why does no one seem to be as upset so many Americans die every year?
BTW, before Saddam was taken out of power there were sometimes 100's a day killed or tortured or raped. Too bad no one seems to remember these little facts.
