Poison Ivy Epidemic on the Way
I can't honestly say this is the most important reason to worry about global warming, but hey, if it convinces people to pay attention:
Rising levels of carbon dioxide—a so-called greenhouse gas that traps heat within Earth's atmosphere—can fuel booming poison ivy growth, a new study reports.Poison ivy is no fun. Here are some great pictures of poison ivy rashes. Here's Mother Jones' (slightly less painful) cover package on global warming from last year. Hot office gossip has it that Al Gore gushed about this article on Fresh Air the other day. Do listen to Al.Even worse, the rash-inducing vines may become more potent.

Er, I don't think I was endorsing everything Al Gore's ever done in his life. It was just a roundabout way of telling people to read the Chris Mooney article. For the most part, I agree with you about Gore's environmental record, although hypocrite aside, he's still saying the right things about global warming...

End the genocide in Darfur
Every day, Darfuris face rape, murder, and starvation. Be a Voice for Darfur: tell Obama to end the suffering.

Sadly, very, very sadly, you are very mistaken Mr. Plumer: Al Gore is a very big hypocrite: his efforts to secure an Endangered Species Act waiver for the Tellico Dam on the Tennessee River actually paved the way for the gutting of the ESA. Said David Brower (very famous environmentalist), "This was the beginning of the end of the Endangered Species Act."
Despite having vowed during his '92 campaign to oppose the WTI hazardous waste incinerator in East Liverpool, Ohio, while Vice-Pres. Gore turned around 180 degrees and supported it.
When Gore ran for president the first time, he was pressured by 2 politicians whose support he needed for the N. Carolina primary, and he caved... The Champion International paper mill has pumper tons of s__t into the Pigeon River; after writing a letter to the EPA asking for a more permissive water pollution standard, Terry Sanford and Jamie Clarke endorsed Gore, and he won the state handily...
Furthermore, environmentalist have voiced concerns about the consequences of his support for North American Free Trade Agreement.
In fact, Gore has persistently supported increased logging in the Pacific NW and Alaska.
Gore was an ardent supporter of the Clinch River Breeder Reactor, and later of the Fast Flus Test Facility in the Hanford nuclear reservation.
No, it's difficult to have much faith in the Great White Hope, knowing that, after Armand Hammer of Occidental Petroleum bought a certain parcel of property for $160,000, Hammer then turned around and sold it to Gore, Jr. and Sr. for the same price; upon which the Gores themselves turned around and leased the mineral rights back to Hammer for payments that have been termed "extraordinarily large." Now, while the mine itself has environmental problems that have been termed "actually very minor," the plant that processes the "Gore minerals" is a fed. Superfund site that poses "a threat to the human food chain..."
Once upon a time, Time Mag. called Peter Knight "the hub of Gore's political circle;" he ran Gore's House and Senate offices for years and helped financed Gore's campaigns. Now it so happens that Franklin Haney, the Tennessee real estate developer and longtime Gore fundraiser, was trying to get the FCC to move its headquarters to a development of his. Haney paid Knight a million bucks, claiming it was for advice on attracting the FCC.., but wasn't the money paid for Gore's political connections..."
