Ha, ha, ha, you have got to be kidding--Bush has given up on promoting democracy in the Middle East?
Just consider the US Commission on Civil Rights Letter of Transmittal (regarding irregularities in the 2000 Florida Presidential Election) to the Pres., the Pres. of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House: "Voting is the language of our democracy. As the Supreme Court observed, "no right is more precious in a free country than that of having a voice in the election of those who make the laws under which, as good citizens, we must live." It is clear that many people in Florida were denied this precious right. The Commission asks the Justice Department and the Civil Rights Division in the office of the Florida attorney general to investigate and hold accountable those state election officials whose actions or failure to act violated relevant federal and/or state laws."
Yeah, right, we leave open the front door and get 9/11, we leave open the front door at Iraq's big munitions depot and the terrorists get free weapons, we leave open the door at the Bank of Iraq and the terrorists get free money--and all this somehow translates into the fact that Bush has given up on promoting democracy in the Middle East.
What???!!! Like GET REAL!!!!

Since the true reason for the war in Iraq was never really to "promote democracy" anyway, this is not surprising. The U.S. should be promoting democracy not with an invasion but by example (though our last election doesn't give a good one!) and at the same time should make an attempt to understand why the majority opinion in places like West Bank and Gaza and Egypt is anti-American and pro-militant Islam.
