« Berkeley: As go styrofoam containers, so goes Bush... | Blog Index U.S. Supreme Court strikes down military tribunal plansIn a 5-3 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court today stuck down George W. Bush's plant to conduct military tribunals for foreign terror suspects at Guantamamo Bay, Cuba. The court said that Bush had exceeded his authority in setting up the system without Congressional approval, and that the system violates both the U.S. Military Code of Justice and the Geneva Conventions. Justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito voted in the minority. Chief Justice Roberts did not vote because he had already voted as a member of a lower court that upheld Bush's plan. Posted by Diane E.
