Conditions Worsening at Guantanamo?
Hard to believe—and of course possibly untrue—but, according to one detainee, guards at Guantanamo have become "very tough" since three inmates killed themselves last month. (What were they before? Merely no-nonsense?) "We're being pushed, pushed, pushed all the time--don't be surprised if things happen," the Australian prisoner told family members on a phone call. Payback for those ruthless acts of asymmetrical warfare...? (Guardian)

Fair enough. I'd say, though, that given what we've learned these past few years about what goes on in US detention centers, the presumption has to be squarely in favor of the prisoner, and the burden of disproof on the government.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Brooks the burden of proof is most definitely on our government as it has a history, under George Bush of endless lying or have some already forgotten WMD and the 20 other reasons given, at various times and one after another by the Bush admin as reasons why America had to go to war.
Only Repub southerners, Repubs, neocons and 59 million voters believe Geroge's lies. The remaining 241 million Americans are at least very skeptical and I am totally skeptical and critical of anything Bush&Co. say about anything.
They may fool me once but they will never fool me twice. For those who complain that many of us always distrust our government well folks those are the 22 reasons why we don't trust our government.
