Who's Arming Israel? Take a Guess.

Until a few days ago, there was room for debate over the extent to which the United States was to blame for the tragedy unfolding in Lebanon. Then came the administration’s decision to expedite a shipment of laser-guided bombs to Israel, followed by Condoleezza Rice squelching calls from Europe and Arab nations for a ceasefire in Lebanon. Anyone who still doubts that the U.S. has blood on its hands is either delusional or, as Fouad Siniora said yesterday, none too concerned with Lebanese blood.

But American culpability for Israel’s actions goes deeper than that. A report published yesterday by Foreign Policy in Focus entitled "Who’s Arming Israel?" sheds light on one aspect of this support. "During the Bush administration, from 2001 to 2005, Israel received $10.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing—the Pentagon's biggest military aid program—and $6.3 billion in U.S. arms deliveries." The jet fuel and bombs that have been offered in July are drops in the bucket by comparison.

The report’s authors describe this military support for Israel in order to argue that the United States has a lot of leverage over its ally—enough to stop its vicious campaign against Lebanon whenever it wants. But there is another point as well: by not only supporting but facilitating Israel’s destruction of Lebanon, the United States is guaranteeing that the fires of anti-Americanism will keep burning for years to come—and not just in the Middle East. In what world body will the U.S. ever receive welcome reception of its aims and ideals after this shameful spectacle?

In an interview with Mother Jones last week, University of Chicago Professor John Mearsheimer placed this point in a broader context:

It's not just bin Laden—people in the Islamic world more generally are deeply hostile to the United States because we support Israel at the expense of the Palestinians. As a consequence, huge numbers of people in the Middle East tend to be more sympathetic to bin Laden than would otherwise be the case. As long as the United States continues to support Israeli policy vis-à-vis the Palestinians, it will be impossible to win hearts and minds in the Arab and Islamic world and solve the terrorism problem.

The Israeli Defense Force is the fifth most powerful war machine in the world. Despite comprising only .001 per cent of the world’s population, Israel receives one third of all American foreign aid. They receive the most American military aid of any country on earth, and are the largest buyer of American made weapons. Those are American made M109 155mm self-propelled howitzers firing M110A1 WP white phosphorous incendiary shells and M483A1 DPICM cluster munitions into Lebanese villages, and those are American made F-16 fighter-bombers dropping American made GBU-28 5,000 lb laser-guided bombs upon residential suburbs of Beirut. Israel’s indiscriminate attack on Lebanon unequivocally constitutes a crime against humanity pursuant to the UN Charter, Articles 33, 48, and 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, and Article 7 of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Statutes of 1998, differing from Lidice and Guernica only in scope. They are perpetrating this atrocity with American made weapons paid for with American taxpayers dollars under the diplomatic cover of the American Secretary of State and American Ambassador to the UN and with the inane cheerleading of the American President and American Congress. If indeed these are the elected leaders of a free democracy simply expressing the will of the people, by extension that makes every American citizen fully complicit as a war criminal.
Words simply cannot express the depth of my grief for the people of Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine, or the depth of my shame and revulsion for the United States.

Who are the brokers for the transferring,buying/selling our military hardware to Israel? I realize that Israel has the largest lobbying contingent of any group, but there must be some prime movers-Richard Perle, maybe?Who are the profiteers-Congressmen,administration personnel? There must be names.
Have all of Israel's past "loans" been forgiven?
Wow! Just think about how far these monies would have gone to make Medicare and Social Security solvent! But then again, these people are only taxpayers

Depleted Uranium Situation Worsens Requiring Immediate Action By President Bush, Prime Minister Blair, and Prime Minister Olmert

July 24, 2006

The delivery of at least 100 GBU 28 bunker busters bombs containing depleted uranium warheads by the United States to Israel for use against targets in Lebanon will result in additional radioactive and chemical toxic contamination with consequent adverse health and environmental effects throughout the middle east...

George Bush signed into law a bill that forgives all Israels debt automatically every year. It has something to do with Noahide laws is all I remember but it's in the library of congress. This shameful act should be researched.

Why does the United States unconditionally support Israel with or without the consent of the electorate?

When proposed legislation or regulations affect Israel, the omnipotent American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which is largely controlled by neocons, goes to work. Those representatives and senators, Jews and non-Jews, who believe their tenure in office depends upon currying the favor of AIPAC, and there are many, receive the very real threat, If you don't vote as directed, we will use our power to prevent your re-election. Failure to vote as directed is a wrong that must be avenged, an eye for an eye. Compliance is well rewarded with approprate contributions. When any entity, government or public, corporate or otherwise, seeks legislation that might adversely affect Israel, it is necessary to lobby the lobby, in this case, AIPAC. When it comes to matters affecting Israel, the neocons and AIPAC are Congress.

Neocons and AIPAC are generally stage shy. Most of the blood shed since the older Bush took office can be traced to neocon policies which have become part of our legal system. Only by continual war can they remain in power. But while they glory in the power they have obtained and the consequences of that power, they prefer that the public place the blame for the bloodshed elsewhere. The neocons are a necessary if not sufficient condition for the existence of Bush’s power. But for Bush, read but for the neocons and AIPAC, thousands of people would be enjoying life today who are dead or maimed. The neocons are vampires.

What you're saying Mr. Castle is that the U.S. government as well as the American public are hostages of Israel's interests? If this is the case, how did you get to this state of affaits and, above all, how do the American public accept it?
