Americans Say the Dumbest Things

Want to know why half of Americans still say Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the U.S. invaded—up from 36% last year?
Watch this video.
Sometimes you just feel like giving up.

John, be honest -- do YOU know what state Kentucky Fried Chicken comes from?

I have to wonder if our friend John above is the guy holding the infamous "Get A BRAIN! MORANS" sign...
As to the video: *Cringe*

I actually have a hard time believing that video. None of those people seemed drunk or high. I mean, it wasn't like Howard Stern wandering the streets asking homeless people questions. If that video isn't a hoax, I may have to act on my plan to buy a cabin in Michigan's UP about 30 years earlier than expected. Yikes!

Videos like this are NOT disturbing and here is why: They edit out the people that know the answers and only show the idiots. As a viewer, I have no idea what percentage of those asked were the idiots. Perhaps they asked 5000 people and only the ten or twenty idiots you see made the cut. There is just no way to tell.

There is, however, a more reliable way to tell, which is to listen to the people around you. The ignorance regarding current events, geography and names is astounding. An even more reliable way to gauge this is through well-designed studies, and several of them have shown Americans to be significantly ignorant of geography, names, current events, world politics, and the U.S. Constitution.

Gary's point is a valid one, but honestly is this that much worse when Jay Leno ventures out does a similar man on the street? Sure there's some editing there, but not like Leno's going to waste hours on this kind of a thing.
And I think Diane's observation is the depressing truth.

And your sleazy Democrat buddies have done such a wonderful job supporting the dullards in the teachers unions that American schools are now the envy of the world. I know, lets eliminate tests to “empower the youth”. Socialist bs is as bad as the corporate bs I’ve got the listen to all day – where problems are “challenges”, “challenges” are “opportunities” and the “leaders” get promoted on their skill at turning nouns into verbs.

John- Shouldn't you be watching Fox news or something else insightful?
Posted by: Jonathan on 08/10/06 at 10:32 AM
John, I am not a Democrat and they are hardly my buddies. Perhaps your dullard teachers forgot to instruct you on rhetorical fallacies...

people saying dumb things is a byproduct of freedom of speech. there is no thing as a stupid question. the deal is that we got a lot of stupid people who ask questions.

We have a program in canada that ran for years interviewing dumb americans. No shortage of subjects. Methinks they could run a million interviews a day in your silly, xenaphobic, bush voting, cracker country.

End the genocide in Darfur
Every day, Darfuris face rape, murder, and starvation. Be a Voice for Darfur: tell Obama to end the suffering.

Clara, Clara, Clara… If you liberals would start hanging around with the REAL people, the stupid, superstitious, dumb, violent, ignorant moron peasants – you know, those people you are SO desperate to save from the slime bag, manipulative, smart, sleazy royalty – well, IF any of you DID, this would NOT be such a big shock. But, no. All you airhead liberals can think to do is cry in your beer (oops, wine, sorry) for these worthless peasants. “Boo WHOO, let’s make the government BIGGER and help the loser peasants!! The fascists will never win again, we should make the government even BIGGER, to help the worthless peasants.” Jeezzz, as somebody once said, “Sometimes you just feel like giving up”.
Look, if you want to win the next election, truth and facts don’t matter. A good stupid story matters, and for males, the bigger and more unlikely the better. The fascists got the story the peasants want to hear. But, until you airheads start understanding the peasants, accepting these losers for what they REALLY are, you can’t make a story they will comprehend. You all profess to be environmentalists. Well, the peasant eco-system is based on stupidity, meanness, and dicks. If you want change, you’d better adapt to the environment.
