It never ceases to amaze me that both the devout and the guilt-ridden all hate “Survivor”. The guild-ridden liberals are always complaining that “Survivor” brings out the worst in people and the assholes always win. The naive conservatives are always complaining that “Survivor” brings out the worst in people and the assholes always win. I’m talking, generally here, of the religious conservatives, NOT the mean libertarians and fascists, who can identify with the winners. Perhaps, that’s what makes “Survivor” real. Just like life, the assholes always DO win; despite the naivety and preconceived notions, of the guilty and the devout, of who “should” win.

I’d love to see “Survivor” have a tribe of mean fascists and guild-ridden socialist “fight it out”. I’d buy a TV to watch that one.

I keep hoping "reality TV" will die . . . .

TV has always catered to the lowest common denominator. Then Survivor came along and made bundles of money, so TV got even worse. Now the "reality" show that started it all has sunk even lower? I didn't think that was possible. I used to defend 'watching whatever you want.' But now, I'm sorry. If you watch "reality" TV, you are stupid. There's no other way to put it.

This isn't about being devout or guilt-ridden. This is about all "reality" TV being stupid, encouraging the people to be stupid, and proving that a HUGE chunk of my fellow citizens are stupid. I mean seriously, if you need to watch mindless TV it's probably better to watch wrestling than this $hit!

I have to hand it to you, John, you never miss an op to criticize liberals. Having said that, at least you try to balance things, by holding just about all groups in contempt.
Ironically, by any discussion of reality TV we legitimize it and feed the monster. Cancelling my cable ten years ago was one of the most liberating things I've ever done and hopefully anyone outside of the stupid box will do the same.
