Terror Arrest Timing: White House Spins Lamont Victory at Expense of Our Safety

The Tattered Coat has a great post on how the Bush administration forced the timing of the recent London terror plot arrests. Analyzing reporting done by NBC and others, TTC’s Matt notes:

This goes way beyond what we understood previously — that the Bush Administration knew about the arrests ahead of time, and timed a PR offensive against the Democrats around it.
It turns out that it was the other way around: the Bush Administration orchestrated the timing of the arrests to coordinate them with the PR offensive, which attacked Democrats after Ned Lamont’s victory in the Connecticut primary.
For the GOP, the short-term political importance of getting the Lamont victory, and the developing sense that America had fully turned against the Iraq War, off the news was reason enough to disrupt an active terror investigation. The disruption hurt the legal case against the terrorists — it will be much harder to convict them without passports or airline tickets. The GOP was so insistent on the timing that they threatened to “render” the lead suspect if the British did not comply with their wishes.
The Republicans, in other words, once again played politics with national security, and hurt anti-terrorism efforts as they did so.
They cannot be trusted to protect us from the threat of terrorism because — to paraphrase The Downing Street Memo — they fix terror investigations around smear campaigns.

And it’s not just liberal bloggers who won’t be fooled again. This morning I heard a commentator on the (delightfully) sleepy show CBS Sunday Morning (the one with all the suns) say pretty much the same thing. Lyndon Johnson once said he’d knew he’d lost the country when he lost Walter Cronkite. Watch any show where reporters or anchors or pundits are allowed to deviate from the teleprompter, and it’s becoming increasingly clear Bush has lost us all. Well, except for Charles Krauthammer. But then he yells at rabbis.

The Repugs, neocons and Bushies will do anything and everthing to keep themselves in power, for them any means is justified if it serves their ends.

These people are not patriotic Americans they are criminals deserving of a LIFETIME JAIL SENTENCE.

If Americans want to do so they/we can take back America from the 59 million who voted for Bush&Co. We must get rid of the electoral college and the Republican electronic voting machines. We must limit all politicians to only two terms and must apply severe punishment to ALL lobbyists caught influencing government and equally severe penalties for government employees accepting such money, especially legislators.

Legislators MUST be limited to ONLY TWO TERMS, no more than eight years and that will go a very long way to solving the problems of corrupt politicians and saving America for the children.

Nice fantasy Bob, but if term limits were so great California would be seeing some improvement is the quality of the sleaze running for office. There’s no evidence of this. In fact, if you participated in local politics (at all), you’d know that the sleaze starts locally. In Davis CA (a true hotbed of guilt ridden limousine liberalism) the authority worshipping Democratic mommy voters routinely elect the developer sponsored sleaze; the developers only need three seats – at about $40,000 each (a cheap “investment”). The political sleaze then approves anything the developers (their owners) want, while making sure Davis stays a nuclear free zone and imports homeless people to manipulate the liberal guilt. The sleazy of the sleaze move up to county, then to state, and then to the regional sleaze championship in DC; the crowd goes wild!!!

Which comes to the 56 million stupid morons that voted Republican. Are they criminal for being so stupid, twice no less? Can you liberals stop trying to help the white trash; in revenge – or does guilt override all logic? Are the 56 million (minus a few) that voted for Kerry as stupid? Is there really any difference between the Democratic sleaze that starts-out being owned by local developers and Halliburton owned Republican sleaze?

Politics is about manipulating the stupid people to benefit your buddies – the developers or the Halliburtons. The Republicans got the story that keeps them winning. What’s the Democrats story? “We’ll screw you as much as the Republicans! Vote for us instead?” That used to work.

the country should remain safe. If someone stops an attack let it be .

The latest one of these ploys seems to be the arrest of the "suspect" in Thailand in connection with the Jonbenet Ramsey murder.
The News were and continue to be crowded with the arrest of the Teacher.
That was very effective in taking out of the news, reports and conversations about the issue of the District Court Ruling on "surveillance" of domestic and international communications by the Bush Administration. The Court declare the practice illegal but very few people heard it on the news...
