Democrats' Strategy on the War on Terror

This just in from AP:

Six weeks before elections, the Democratic strategy for the war on terror is one part attack President Bush and one part agree with him. The goal is to court voters dissatisfied with the job the administration has done, yet avoid being tagged as soft on Osama bin Laden. ...

[A Democratic strategy memo] says "stress that Democrats offer a 'better way to fight terrorism.'" Example: call for the inspection of all cargo containers entering the country. ...

Republicans hope for an opening to outmaneuver House Democrats on an issue the GOP has long called its own.

They thought they had an opening recently when Rep. Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), the Democratic leader, said of bin Laden: "He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done is done. And even to capture him now I don't think makes us any safer."

Does this mean AP is moving in on The Onion's turf?

Eisenhower won in 1952 by not presenting a plan but rather saying he would solve the problem of Korea. Many people voted for him thinking he meant to use nuclear weapons. He did a good job of convincing the Chinese that he would do that and they came to terms. Eisenhower was the general who honchoed the victory over Nazi Germany.

Maybe the Democrats should study history a little more. No anti war candidate has ever won beginning with McClan vs Lincoln 1864. McGovern learned that bitter lesson, 1972. This situation is much more like 1864 than 1972.

Democrats, liberals should run on their war record. No Republican president ever won a foreign war, only signed peace deals without victory. The winners are all liberal Democrats, Wilson, FDR and Truman. Truman is the only user of nuclear weapons. With the proper attitude liberals could both win control in Washington and scare hell out of America's enemies by simply pointing to their aggressive war record that say don't pussyfoot around, get the job done and end the war, quickly. Iraq will soon pass WW2 in length of time.

Thanks BGone,

I was unaware of the facts that you mentioned.

But there is one giant problem namely, the Dems will not use your idea. it's sad and I just don't know why they would not use facts such as these but it seems they never do, it's as if they want to lose. Either that or they can't think their way out of a paper bag.

Maybe they have just given up. We need to get some of those old Dems out of the party and get new blood like Marcy Winograd, Paul Hackett, Russ Feingold and Barak Obama running the party and running for office. And the Dems need consultants like Noam Chompsky, George Lakoff, Jeffrey Nunberg Norman Finklestein and Michael Bloomberg if they can ever get him back to the Dem party.

May God save us all and protect us from the godless and vicious like the pope of my church, the SBC and other fundamentalists religions in America. It is they who are killing us ALL and they who will destroy America for their own private and personal agendas'.

Here one should consider House Majority Leader Boehner's astute remark questioning whether Dems. are more interested in protecting terrorists than in protecting the American people.
Huh?: terrorists were caught half-a-dozen times trying to smuggle a suitcase full of explosives into the US--then they succeeded and we had the first World Trade Center explosion; despite the self-evident truth that 747s make good missiles, the Gov. turns a blind eye to the problem, never bothering to adopt a policy of scrambling jet fighters to intercept domestic hyjackings; the Gov. spends major dough creating the Dep't of Homeland security, yet thousands of miles of our borders remain wide open; we sell Iraq the pesticide plant which was converted into a chemical and biological weapons manufacturing facility, then, after leaving the door open to the hijackers, we use Iraq's possession of such Weapons of Mass Destruction as an excuse to invade; upon our successful invasion, somehow we fail to properly secure the major arms depot, instead leaving the front gate wide open for extremists to simply grab whatever they want.
Did Boehner pull a boner, or was he making a bad joke, or is it merely that our Gov. and the media have grown accustomed to taking advantage of a trusting, hysterical public?
Whatever answers lie out there.., it would seem that our Gov. is interested only in creating global havoc (in order to raise the price of OIL???).

Get Them Workin' For Our Votes Again

What's It Gonna Take....America? A strong showing for a 3rd party--take your pick, could divide the vote enough to hurt the lobbying circus and make the hungry bastards WORK! FOR OUR VOTES AGAIN. We need to keep it real!-------our party leaders are not democrats.

(Progressive Review)
The DLC/neo-liberal economic model is deeply flawed. The positions advocated by Mrs. Clinton are not in the least bit 'moderate', rather, when judged within the context of our history, they are more accurately described as being positions of right wing economic and social extremism. The first Clinton presidency was nothing more than an extension of the Reagan/Bush continuum that preceded it. Another Clinton presidency would be maintaining the status quo. Even if the Dems firmly take back Congress, Hillary will never be elected President.

Bush is just a transparent continuation of the corporate anarchy written into law in the 90's. That Clinton is no liberal? ---Shucks!!, we could live with that. But a conservative who operating from within, beat us up worse than reagan, Nixon, Bush---THAT!! broke our party's back. The only thing he globalized was corporate predation. In practice it was Run-Away Deregulation --let the corporations write their own laws and we're living with the aftershock. The "Globalization" psy-op, the Free Mkt Run Amuck, COST! more lives since Clinton signed it into law than the fanatical crusades or any tyrant's slaughter. Clinton's ruthless version of NAFTA lit a fire under the insurgency. Was it worth it America?

"The Terminator" was enraged when ABC broke the mega-media's silence on Clintonomics & exposed their "Buck Stops Everywhere But Here" manipulation . C'mon, you all, Clinton's Telecommunications Act -'96 shut down the free press opening the door for the fat cats that moved in-- Don't you think they LIKE him? But he's still finessing his "UNITY"- psy-op and cynically urges us to support a single-party autocratic system and as such "elect" to keep us at the mercy of the corporate world. The far right is no prettier when they're democrats than when they're Republicans. "Big Dawg?", c'mon guys I'm thinking "Big Rat." When we bought Clinton's "Unity" psy-op the people forfeited all our safeguards and everything that protects us from pension-looting, merger-mania , fraudulent predatory prices & practices in the insurance, health-care, banking, retail business, ...c'mon America, you all don't need me to finish! this list .

This country has been a one political party country since the Carter days. The people started calling the parties Republican A and Republican B.It has been and will continue to be until the people finally rise up and demand a REAL party for the people! No one is going to rock the boat and lose the gravy train they are enjoying so much! Its easy money you know!
