Outsourcing Meth
America's methamphetamine manufacturers are the latest entrepreneurs to discover the advantages of moving their factories to the Third World. Spurred by a crackdown on rural labs and the sale of ingredients used to make crystal meth in the U.S., savvy speed producers have relocated to Mexico. Authorities there recently shut down the biggest meth factory ever found in the Americas. And it's not just a North American issue - like everything else, the crystal trade is global. Mexican meth makers are apparently importing their ingredients from China and India, via Hong Kong. Their number one market, of course, is still the U.S.

A good portion of meth entering our country comes from Canada as well. Both countries have recently tried to curb the flow of precursor drugs into their countries, as we have here. Canada gets it's precursor drugs from the same countries Mexico does. Why focus only on our neighbors to the south when our neighbors to the north are posing a similar threat? When the drug war IS big news in the US we are lazy on how it is covered.

And this is supposed to be a surprise? I thought it was pretty clear that most of the meth in this country has always come from Mexico. Something that I haven't heard much about here is also the fact that over 2500 people have died in drug war-related deaths in Mexico this year alone - the drug war just isn't big news these days.
