Earth Hour
At 7:30pm on March 31, 2007, the lights of Sydney will go dark for one hour. It’s the brain child of Sarah Bishop, 22, who wants Australians to think about global warming, and to look at the stars:
I am 22 years old. These statistics [about climate change] represent my future.
Can we get that going elsewhere on the same night, same time? Think of it as casting a ballot in the first global election.

I'm going to take part in Earth Hour and organise something for our kids and frineds. I'd like to sign up to register my support, but as far as I can tell, this is restricted to Australian residents. Does anyone know of an international sign up ?

Let us all turn off the lights when we leave the room and only use florescent blubs. Watch the electrical useage. In summer time, wear little clothes, in winter time bundle up. Don't fly much, take public transit, and walk as much as possible. This is the way to fight global warming all year around.

I love her idea of 1hr with lights out - we should make this worldwide - and have all airplanes grounded for the same hour. Jet engines are a huge part of the problem. They provide direct heat in huge quantities as well as CO2. This is the compounding that is seen in artic heating producing double the rate of temp increase predicted.
