Ted Nugent's Racist Spectacle at Texas Governor's Inaugural Ball
Is Texas Governor Rick Perry crazy, or is he just a big fan of Cat Scratch Fever? The final act at Perry’s inaugural ball in Austin Tuesday night featured redneck rocker Ted Nugent, who, according to the San Antonio Express News, “appeared onstage wearing a cut-off T-shirt emblazoned with a Confederate flag and shouting unflattering remarks about undocumented immigrants, including kicking them out of the country, according to people who were in attendance. Machine guns, including an AK-47, were his props.”
The funny thing for those who know Nugent is that he was actually being pretty tame. Two years ago, when I saw him speak at a National Rifle Association conference in Houston, he had this to say:
Remember the Alamo! Shoot 'em! To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molestors dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead. Get a gun, and when they attack you, shoot 'em.
That one was widely reported. But the AP didn’t relate several other Nugent gems from that day. Among them was something he said while recounting a USO tour of Iraq: “I was just hoping somebody would take me hostage,” he said. “Just aim for the laundry.” (Which was even more odd when you consider that Iraqis generally don't wear turbans). Much of this was said while Nugent was holding an assault rifle. He wound up the tirade by concluding that Democrats, guilty of tax-raising and gun muzzling, should be “eliminated.”
There has been a lot of talk in Texas that Gov. Perry could be tapped to run for Vice President. Maybe McCain should just nominate Nugent instead. The bigot vote would be in the bag.

So whats wrong with freedom of speech, or expressing yourself. Is this not the American way? Is their only supposed to be one point of view on anything? Does the media only pickup on minority complaints for feeling that they have been done a great injustice? Its time to take America back and quit the crap of always being politically correct. Anymore there is no right or wrong only this gray area everyone is supposed to operate within, and thats a bunch of crap.

hey denny, inciting people to kill other people doesn't count as freedom of speech.
Posted by: ken on 01/19/07 at 6:32 AM
Yes Denny, Nugent has a right to free speech. And so do the rest of us. Some of us will use that right to point out that Ted Nugent is a violent bigoted jackass.
That OK with you?

Oh, he's also never been a very good guitarist. I fell asleep at one of his concerts back in the `80's.

This didn't sound like a political or religious opinion, it sounds like insiting a vigilante uprising, therefore, not covered by the right of free speach! It does sound like Bush, Rummy,Cheney and Condi, in other words Nazi brown shirt operators! A real sicko,a good example of how sick this society has become.

Too bad Ted didn't say ANY of the things mentioned in your "blog" at Governor Perry's Inaugural. I was there and saw thousands of black tie attendees dancing and overtly thrilled with Ted's performance. Get your facts straight.

Whats wrong with rounding up the badguys. Our legal system doesn't do it, so maybe someone else needs to. I'd rather have them dead than carjacking my car, molesting, raping or killing my family, etc....

Nugent is a bigoted ahole who shouldn't be allowed to own a machine gun because of all the drugs he has done.
Does he think drug abusers like him and white-collar criminals like the Enron leaders should be shot as well?
Posted by: jackson on 01/19/07 at 2:22 PM
Ted Nugent is not really racist, he is just out for illegals. Those who know a little about uncle Ted, who is an abbid hunter know for fact that he was never a drug user. Therefore one of the few rockers without friends.

I am so sick of doublespeak. Notice how this author writes, "undocumented immigrants." Call them what they are...Illegals! I am not a redneck, a racist, or a fan of the confederate flag, but kudos to Ted Nugent for not being politically correct.

Nugent is a lousy musician and a worse human being. In both respects, what he lacks in gift he makes up for in volume.
Please Ted - break into my house. Some of us liberals are armed too...

Please, spare us he Marxist wacko cries of bigotry. Here's a newsflash, loonies: your beloved illegals who crush our wages, overwhelm or schools and hopitals, and fill our prisons will never get an amnesty. Boo hoo.

Bigot is the favorite label of a Marxist who's backed into a corner. Here's a newsflash: your beloved illegals and their offspring who crush our wages, push our hospitals and schools to the brink, and fill our prisons will never get an amnesty. Why don't you loonies go to Europe to help out the Muslim radicals who have invaded all of Western Europe. That would suit you perfectly.

Nugent can be accused of a lot of things, I mean a lot of things, few of them positive. But a drug abuser, he is not, nor has ever been. Nor a drinker. A womanizer, an asshole, sure.

The guy sounds like a real wacko to me, otherwise I'd say he's a terrorist.

Before anyone passes judgement I suggest they get the facts!
From Dallas "I have spoken to several people at the event and several more who knew people there. I have yet to hear one quote that serves as an example of what Hearst Newspapers reporter Lisa Sandberg cited in her article...." What a bunch of liberal BS. He says he illegals need to be sent home, violent criminals need to be killed to protect law abiding citizens and you call him a bigot? I don't understand the liberal mentality, killing babies is OK but God forbid you kill a murderer or rapist! Ted is a great guitarist and he is right on the money with his comments.

Rick Perry likes Stranglehold, not Cat Scratch Fever. It is clearly the better song. People always go with Cat Scratch Feaver because it was an album title.

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them." (Richard Henry Lee, Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress, initiator of the Declaration of Independence, and member of the first Senate, which passed the Bill of Rights.)
"The great object is that every man be armed . . . Everyone who is able may have a gun." (Patrick Henry, in the Virginia Convention on the ratification of the Constitution.)
"The advantage of being armed . . . the Americans possess over the people of all other nations . . . Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several Kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." (James Madison, author of the Bill of Rights, in his Federalist Paper No. 46.)

Those who would offer any interpretation that would relegate Amendment II to "relic" status of a bygone era are blatantly stating that the remainder of the Bill of Rights isn't worth a damn, either.
Posted by: River Skyler on 02/19/07 at 7:52 PM
Denny, et al
For future reference and to save yourselves and everyone else some time and energy: Mentioning your disapproval or disdain for someone elses ignorant comments is not the same as throwing 'Freedom of Speech' out of the Bill of Rights. They 'what's so wrong with freedom of speech?' smokescreen is a way of condemning MJ for opposing Nugent's comments without having to say you agree with him - that's called cowardice. You have the freedom to be a bigot so take advantage of it.
And another thing that conservative bigot types never seem to get right: Most of the things progressive liberals want for this country don't actually cause anyone harm, unless by harm you mean taking just some of the petty-cash millions out of the greedy hands of fat-cats like the Walton family to help the rest of us. Conversely bigot views espouse the belief that some people aren't worth living and not, please lets not get too caught up by Nugent, because they are rapists, but because they worship a differant God or have differant skin color.
Jason - Ever hear of Sacco and Vanzetti? There is a very good reason for the process of law. Just think, being stupid as crap might one day be illegal and you could be hauled to a tree and hung without even getting to argue your case. Think about it as much as you can.
Chuck - you might just be the idiot. 'Illegals' exist in this country not because of soft-hearted liberals but because of hard-hearted money mongers [usually conservatives] who skirt American wage expectation by exploiting a sub-culture of immigrants who will work for just about anything. If you think that your gun-toting republican friends really want to put an end to this 'dilemma', you're as wrong as wrong can be.

Ted Nugent is a violent bigoted maniac! My only hope is when the day comes that the Democrats take control they can ban all guns from private hands. The U.S. Supreme Court agrees with ME, the right to keep a well-regulated Militia belongs to the STATE!
Too bad about that legal ignorance in this country.I repeat for emphasis.
YOU have no 'gun rights' whatever.
The STATE has a right to a Militia.
The first half of the 2nd amendment is the ONLY example of a right granted that comes with a declared limitation and allowable purpose. Outlaw the private possession of firearms.
Don't tell me it can't work, Britian forbids in-home possession of even shotguns, and lo, they DON'T have Columbines and the like.
If we haven't the guts to try to stop the things from being sold, why not open up all the stops and let in nuclear weapons for every psycho?

Illegalizing private ownership of fire arms is along the lines of alcohol prohibition, which was reversed after it spawned a huge crime wave and failed to 'save the souls' of those Americans who wanted to drink. The last thing we need is more restrictions and more excuses for the man to throw harmless Americans in the slammer, as happens now with pot smokers.
Posted by: Paul Miller on 02/21/07 at 4:25 AM
The government should ban all private ownership of guns, I say that you can't be too careful, and we must do this to protect the children.Citizens should not have the right to own firearms for self-protection, hunting, target shooting, and recreational purposes. The vast proportions of Americans recognize the reality that individuals do not have a legitimate need for guns.We must recognize that gun violence is a multi-faceted problem and requires a multi-faceted approach. We must recognize that as we sit idly by, that police officers and scores of innocent citizens are being injured or killed. They are weapons of war and are being adopted in large numbers by the most violent members of our society. Since we first enacted the ban in 1994, there was a 80% reduction in the crimes committed by these weapons. Congress must act to re-enact the Assault Weapons ban.

The Cracker wearing the Rebel flag disrespects Black History Month. Don't knock guns.
Posted by: Tyrone on 02/21/07 at 7:14 PM
Excellent comment Paul! The gun banners state that only the state has the right to bear arms, well, in this country the people are "the state"! When looked at in respect to the time in which this was written, the farmer, the store clerk and the local bum, was the militia! Please, WAKE UP AMERICA! Don't give up a single right, if you give up one, they will take all the rest! At the same time, don't abuse these rights or you will loose them.

this thread is what makes me ashamed of America... all the yahoo neanderthal bigots who suck up the venom that Nugent spews. By the way, the Nuge is a chicken hawk. He was the right age to go to Vietnam and never did...
