As admitted by Mr. Obama himself in his autobiography, his Indonesian stepfather (Sutoro) is a non-practising Muslim. However, 'non-practising' Muslim only means that one does not pray five times a day. It does not at all mean that one is opposed to Islamic terrorism and/or other radical Islamic teaching.

It is VERY EASY to know whether or not Mr. Obama is a Muslim at heart: Just observe whether or not Mr. Obama eats PORK. Practically all of the non-practising Muslims of Indonesia do not eat pork. This fact can be generalized to all Muslims in the world, and can be very easily tested, e.g., during the Democrat Party convention meetings.

If Mr. Obama eats pork, than it is true what he said, that he is not a Muslim. However, if Mr. Obama avoids eating pork, then he is a true Muslim in his heart, but tries to conceal his Muslim identity (as commended by the well-known Koranic 'al-Taqiyya' tactics). If Mr. Obama does not eat pork, then he is a dangerous threat to all Americans.

So we should decide whether Obama is Muslim or not using what he eats. And then, once we've decided that he does regard himself as a Muslim, we should, what, bar him from the presidency? I don't believe personal religious belief is a tenet of being barred or welcomed with open arms from the executive chair.

I still can't figure out why having an Islamic president would be a bad thing. That's because all political leaders are supposed to leave their personal religious afflictions and baggage behind - something at which GWB has failed incredibly, time and time again.

Not sure just what attracts you about Obama's supposed Madrassa education, Jonathan. Is it the violent anti-Semitism that is often a core part of the education at such institutions? Or is the violent anti-gay line that so many (non-"radical") muslim schools preach? Is it the notion that men can(and do) not only take several wives, and discard them at will with no post-marital rights to speak of?

And as for Mr Van Guard's question,it's a simple answer, really. Of course Muslims should not a priori be disqualified from the presidency. But when so many Western Muslim organisations openly call for "the flag of Islam to fly over Big Ben" (to quote one British imam)and support the murder of innocents - in New York, London, Madrid, Bali and Gaza -to say nothing of Jewish innocents in Tel Aviv, Argentina, Turkey etc. - it is entirely reasonable that madrassa-educated Muslims are suspect.

In other words, having a Muslim president would not necessarily be such a bad thing - provided said president used his authority to promote Muslim values like charity and humility, while rejecting the "Jews are pigs and monkeys" line found in the state press of virtually every Muslim country in the world. IF America's first Muslim president defendeds the right of newspapers to print cartoons of Mohammed and other items offensive to Muslims, and announces unequivocally that homosexuals, adulterous women and other infidels will enjoy the full protection of the United States constitution, his election would be a true blessing.

If, however, Mr. Obama waffles on any of these questions, his inability to confirm all these basic questions should be regarded by civil libertarians and non-racists as red-light warning signs.

I am an Indonesian and Indonesian journalist already investigated since July 2006 that Barack Obama (formerly known as Barry Soetoro) attended Franciscus Assisi Elementary School, a catholic institution, and Percobaan Elementary school.

The second is not an Islamic school. He was being truthful in stating that he studied in Muslim since Indonesia’s population is overwhelmingly Moslem. It’s like any school in Italy (where I am now) is predominantly, at least nominally, Catholic. And if you do serious research in Indonesia’s education, you will find that even Thomas Friedman was surprised by the cosmopolitan nature of the Islamic schools when he visited Indonesia.

His step father, Lolo Soentoro, was working in the military at the time when the Indonesian government was hostile to Islamic movement. There is no way Lolo Soentoro could stay in the Army if he is a radical Moslem. Since the step-father was Moslem and Indonesia, it is a common practice for the school to simply assign the same nationality and religion to the child.

It’s not Mr. Obama’s religion that is here the issue, but it’s his cover-up of the religious background (see Andy Martin quote in [1] below).

To know his true attitude about Islam, the best test is whether or not he eats pork.

Jews do not eat pork either, but Jews do not deny or conceal their Jewish heritage (aside from the fact that no Jew has blown up passenger airliners and the World Trade Center).

The bottom line is: Mr. Obama has lied to the American people, and he has sought to misrepresent his own heritage. As correctly expressed by Andy Martin, if Mr. Obama lied about his father and mother, also about his religious background, what else is he lying about? It is such lies that made him dangerous and poses a threat to the American people.

To be more precise: One can not trust him (even as a Vice President) just from what he has disclosed about his Muslim heritage. His background is OBSCURE, not ‘clean’, as suggested by some liberal media. If he can be proven to also concealing his Islamic faith (i.e., by the 'pork test'), then he would lose all his credibility. We still can (and have to) tolerate Keith Ellison as a first Muslim congressman. He does not conceal his religion, so the American people know exactly where he stands. But a politician who conceals the true content of his heart is an undercover enemy.

Two and a half years ago I identified the underlying issues that will lead to Obama's downfall: concealment and fabrication. He conceals material facts, and he fabricates material facts, about himself and his family.
A Chicago blogger who has an intense dislike for me, Tom Roeser, has also been questioning Obama's religion. The issue won’t disappear. To paraphrase Watergate, "It's not Obama's religion that is the issue, it's the cover-up of his religious background." According to my research, Mr. Obama’s former residence in South Jakarta must be in the Kebayoran-Jagakarsa area, one of the most elite districts of Jakarta. His Catholic school must be what is now ‘SD Pangudi Luhur’, Jln. H. Nawi Cipete, Jakarta Selatan. During the 1967-1971 time period, most Catholid schools were named after Catholic saints (such as Franciscus Assisi).

There is indeed a prestigious Islamic school (but not a ‘madrassa’) “Al Ahzar” in Southern Jakarta, where once Mr. Obama supposedly lived. However, this ‘Al Ahzar’ school has been established only after 1999 as a collaboration between the Indonesian Wahhabi hardliners with the Eqyptian ‘Al Ahzar’ university in Cairo (similarly financed by Saudi’s petro-dollar). As such, this school did not exist when Mr. Obama was 6-10 years old, but Mr. Obama may have attended its precursor.

Taking all these circumstances into account, it is very well possible that his stepfather (Soetoro, a high official at the privatized state-owned oil company Pertamina, who once received a scholarship to study in Hawaii) may have sent young Obama to a ‘madrassa’ at the closeby ‘al Ahzar’ mosque, which indeed belongs to the hardliner Wahhabi sect. In the Indonesian language, a ‘madrassa’ is called ‘pesantren’, and is usually attended in the evening after school to study Islamic religion and culture. Just having read this blog, I was confirmed of how idealogical and ignorant most Americans are.

Americans like to bask in the nostalgia of peace and love of everyone and everything. While those are great sounding and compassionate clichés, that's not how the world works. Wake up America, the Middle East hates you! The West/America have been fighting the same wars since the beginning of time. Beginning with the Persians to modern day, so called, IslamoFacists. Different names and different swords, but the same people and new context. You can't buy their love, no matter how many dollars you throw at it. Middle East hatred did not begin with Israel or Iraq. That said, Obama having a Muslim background is very dangerous to the US culture and government. Islam in ALL of it's tenets is NOT compatible to democracy. Just look at all of the Islamic countries, all in perpetual poverty and oppression. Even the most moderate, Turkey, does not allow public speech that opposes Islam. Proof in the recent murders of the Catholic priest and writer.

Take too markers, one red and other blue. Color code Islam countries red, and others blue. Tell me which colored countries current enjoy peace and best distribution of equality and prosperity. Wow! Not surprise that it is the blue.

In his two books, Obama writes that he went to a PREDOMINANTLY MUSLIM school for two years (which faux news translated into "for the first decade of his life"), then to a catholic school for another two years. Without being aware, you too, are trying to cover-up Obama’s background. You said: ‘Obama writes he went to a predominantly Muslim school for two years …. then to a catholic school’. You are reversing the order. The truth is, Obama went first to a catholic school for two years, and then, to a predominantly Muslim school. As evidence for the real truth, I quote here below two excerpts from reliable sources [1],[2]. Obama visited the Basuki school from 1969 to 1971, i.e., at his age of 8-10, just prior to his return to Hawaii. This means, he visited the Catholic school at the age of 6-8. Thus, you have reversed the order of Obama’s school.

Here is my analysis, why the sequential order is important: During the years, all Catholic schools in Indonesia were known to have the highest educational standard (but not now; as of year 2000 the Catholic school has been beaten in terms of prestige and rank by the Wahhabist-operated & Saudi-financed ‘al Ahzar’ school). This was the primary reason, why Obama’s parents sent him to a Catholic school. At that time I also lived in Indonesia. Therefore, I know the circumstances back then very well. In this regard, Donald Emerson’s opinion [2] is wrong. It does not make sense to register Obama in the public school as nominally Muslim just to have an affiliation with a major world religion, as suggested by Emerson. It would be much more a credible affiliation with a world religion, and also beneficial with regard to educational quality, to STAY at the Catholic school! Thus, Donald Emerson’s reasoning not only is implausible, but also illogical.

Now the question, why Obama’s parents sent him later to a public school (not a madrassa), although it was well-known that the quality and prestige of a public school was FAR BELOW the Catholic school, at least during those years. The second in rank was the Protestant schools, but the latter were so diverse in quality and did not have a standard.

Now the BIG question is, what was the motivation of Obama’s stepfather to send the young Obama to a public school? It seems not to make nay sense to quit a good school only to exchange to a bad one.

There are two possible motivations for such a peculiar move:

(a) to raise Obama as an Indonesian (most of the Catholic school pupils were/are of Chinese descents, who form a majority of Catholic church members in Indonesia/Java). This possibility can be ruled out by the fact that Obama was sent back to USA at his age of 10.

(b) To raise Obama as a Muslim. In a Catholic school Obama would never know Islamic teaching and would never become a Muslim. On the other hand, in a public school there was/is always a weekly course in Islamic religion. If this was not enough, one could additionally attend the evening course in a nearby mosque to learn Arabics, study al-Qur’an and the Islamic culture. This evening course is part of madrassa, or ‘pesantren’ in the Indonesian language. This is the only plausible reason why his stepfather sent young Obama to a public school.

As to your question, ‘who are the real liars’ in case of Saddam Hussein removal because he had WMDs, there is NO LIAR, because we know FOR SURE that Saddam had WMDs in the form of Chemical Weapon that the US has supplied him during the Iraq-Iran war. Thus, the answer to your question ‘who are the real liar’ is clearly Senator Barrack Hussein Obama.

As we all understood democracy means antidiscrimination against race, ethnicity, religion/believe, political ideology, gender, social status, etc. as always America wants to demonstrate to the world. But, when appear people like Barack Obama with brown skin, curly hair, and unique (not typical American) personal background as presidential nominee, suddenly many American people behave like South African people during apartheid government, even Barack has shown his remarkable dedication and devotion to his country. If it is true, to me as non-American, it simply proves that American democracy is only a rhetoric, valid only for a certain white skin race or ethnic origin political elite (Jews, Italian, Irish, British ….. origin ?). On the other side, if suppose Barack Obama elected to be president, it will show the world that American democracy is genuine (not "the-most-crazy" like some people say) So, be developed men, examine Barack Obama based on what he has done as American fellow. To me, as a non-American citizen, the nomination of Mr. Barack Hussein Obama to be USA 2008 presidential candidate (from Democratic Party) is something like a new hope to the world international politics and peace. Because, it is evident that during the Bush (Republican) period, the world international political crisis is increasing, world peace is threatened, and there is no significant solution to the economic crisis both internationally and domestically. Bush and most Republican politicians are only covering their inability and failure in international politics by blaming Islam (with one-third world Moslem population) as producer of terrorism and threat to the American and world security. One should understand that terrorism is not a cause, but it is an implication of unfairness and oppression in practices of international politics. It happens that countries with dominantly Moslem population are in the blaming position. Terrorism which among others manifested by extreme behavior like suicide and random bombing is simply expression of deep desperation of the oppressed. The solution is simple, if there is no oppression (no unfairness in the international political practices), there will be no desperation, and no terrorism. It seems that Mr. Barack Hussein Obama is the guy who knows something about it, provided by his unique personal background and his political orientation. I believe with Mr. Barack Hussein Obama sitting in the White House can make world peace better of and prosperity to the American people. In the same time proves that there is no racism in American politics, and shows the success of American democracy as genuine democracy. America will look different! As one of the tens of thousands of children whose parents enrolled them in Muslim schools right here in the states, I am certain Obama's breif stint in Muslim schools did not incline him toward terrorism.

My classmates and I recited anti-American, White-man-is-the-devil "lessons' almost daily, and yet, I ended up working as a Congressional Aide (only one year before RIFs) and I proudly carried an American flag in a community parade.

I still do not eat pork, although I am currently a Christian. Bishop T.D. Jakes endorsed my new book, "Do Me Twice: My Life After Islam,' and I considered his endorsement a testiment to the fact that not all Americans are small-minded.

gene, you sound a little Islamophobic. Try to be more tolerant of other people. Not all Muslims are terrorists and not all Jews support the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Look at Lieberman. How many people brought up his Jewish Orthodox practices? When you start bringing up one's perceived religious background, the debate can descend into hurtful sayings. Need I say more.

I learned of the Obama being a Muslim rumor just now and read about it on NewsMax.
I am a Muslim, white skin, of European descent, I do not wear a head covering, etc., but as any other Muslim, feel bonded to my Muslim brothers and sisters of other nations.

I'm upset with Obama for playing into the palms of un-educated southern white trash who send their children blindly off into war to protect this "great country".

I'm Muslim and I have ALL Christian friends, who are tolerant of my religion as I am of theirs. I'm a "non-practicing" Muslim, as you like to call it, but I don't eat pork, and I consider this country to be my country.

Maybe you should try grabbing a copy of the Bible, Quran and Torah and educate yourself about the 3 main religions of the world.

Not sure how Islam could be so bad if the world is flocking to it?
How many prisoners have you seen turned from murderers to Jews/Christians/Buddhists in prison?

Frankly I'm afraid of having Jews run our corporations encouraging war, and drinking the blood of little Iraqi/Somalian/all other children in exchange for oil, with the good ol' crack-smoking Southern white trash of a slave-tooting country-stealing fellas acting as their puppets, ensuring war, so that stocks can stay sky high, the big guys get $mm+ bonuses at the end of the year, and people in Africa still have to get Malaria and other diseases when we're living in the 21st Century.

Hmmm, the Quran teaches tolerance of Islam (which, by the way, means nothing more than "submission" [to one God]), Christianity and Judaism. It refers to the Torah as being the book of laws. It also teaches obligatory charity, cleanliness, 5 contact prayers which ensure closeness to God (MANKIND'S creator and destroyer).

I'm just baffled by in a country where education is at the tip of your hands, and people walk around thinking they'll always be the superpower of this world - iPod en tow, of course,no one picks up a book or someone else's religious text to educate themselves on different viewpoints.

I agree, this country would be different with a non-white president (I'm white and vouching for Obama), and the international arena would finally start to look at us differently. There has been no foreign policy since the Clintons (only dictatorship and modern day communism without the perks! the great divide only continues to get greater under crack-smoking bush), and i think Americans overall do not have any idea how the world views us now, especially Europe.

While I am not living in the USA at this time, I am truly disappointed in Americans. Are they too lazy to read?? I attend school with Muslims and they still practice stoning women to death and a man CAN kill his wife if she is caught with another man! Their beliefs are not like ours. These are the right thing to do in their minds. Two tennis players were killed on the street of Iran because they were wearing tennis shorts! Wake up people! These are not reasons to take another persons life!
They send their own women and children in car bombs cause they value life so little. They get away with it cause our people are brought up to respect, value and protect women and children.
Now, read again where, "if the father is muslim ,then the children are muslim AND IF they denounce the muslim faith then they are killed by their own people. Since he has not had any attempts on his life, then muslims must believe he will benefit them more by being head of our great country! Americans stand up & think!! Aside from the faith issue, he has so little experience in politics! Our country is too complicated for an experienced person, yet alone for one so inexperienced.

There was something about the Quaran when Obama was sworn in. He may not have used the Quaran, but I remember something in the news about it. I can't find anything on line, but I remember that he may have wanted to? It would not be an issue if he answered with consistent clarity.

I am a conservative, but I just finished reading his autobiography and it's clear that his father was a Muslim, as was his stepfather. But it's clear to me that he never bought into Islam, and he hardly knew his father. He met the guy 2-3 times in his life. How that makes him a Muslim I'll never know. He was raised mainly by his white grandparents in Hawaii.

I think other conservatives that are perpetuating this lie are ignoring some of the real sticking points, like his uncontrollable wife and affiliation with a questionable pastor.

Sure he has a few friends that are Muslim, but so do I, and Hindu and Jewish for that matter. Does it make me Muslim, Hindu, or Jewish? No. Not anymore than having friends that are women makes me a woman. I was raised going to Catholic school, but that doesn't make me Catholic either, since I was never confirmed. Still think it does, go ask a priest and they will tell you otherwise.

This question is ridiculous. Barack Obama is not a Muslim, plain and simple. I'm glad to see so many people who are level headed, but I'm saddened by the racism I see here on this forum.

In the position the United States is in with electing a new president during a WAR, (like possibly changing our position on the fact that we support it at all, or will continue with what has been started) It seem's that it doesn't even occur to people that retaliation may be upon the United States? We did that once already. I mean, have people forgotten how many American's have DIED between this war and the towers, or is it only the families of the one's that perished that remember? To elect anyone that even remotely (let alone questionably)has any relation to an islamic background is just IGNORANT. If we choose to or let it be, we bring it upon ourselves in our own election.
