Congressional Republicans Polled On Global Warming, Slam Al Gore
Via Think Progress, we find out that the National Journal has just released a "Congressional Insiders Poll," which surveyed Congress' position on global warming. Think Progress thinks the results are startling. Unfortunately, I think they are fairly predictable. Just 13 percent of Republicans in Congress say they "believe that human activity is causing global warming." Some of the comments that follow though, are fairly amusing, like this choice one zinging Gore:
"The only Inconvenient Truth is that anyone can be a movie star, even someone as boring as Al Gore."
Ha. So that's some really pertinent insight. Thank you, Congressmen and women. The thing is, global warming is most definitely a product of human behavior and apparently, it's just the beginning of an even larger problem. According to Julia Whitty, writing today on our new environmental blog, The Blue Marble, "climate change is only one symptom of a greater disease scientists call global environmental change (GEC). Global warming is the rash. GEC is the bubonic plague."

Regardless of who or what is causing it, the important thing is who will be affected by it. True patriots know that global warming will only cause more opportunity for the smart, adaptable, and worthy to benefit. Global warming will cause increased opportunity for national competitions, euphemistically called wars by the peasant class. Our own peasant class will be grateful to sacrifice their children in glorious combat for dwindling resources needing by the nobility class who will be selflessly engaged in preserving the American way of life. True patriots don’t need to be reminded that sacrificing their children for the good of the nation is the most honorable thing a peasant can do.
Sadly, liberals can’t comprehend WHY peasants, throughout history, have loved to sacrifice their children for a nation’s nobility, and therefore, will never understand the average American peasant’s apathy toward “global warming”. True patriots are looking forward to global warming.

I'll take your diatribe as a "no, you can't explain it."
What that means, is that the whole notion of "humans are causing it" is pointless, much like your response.
The point that is obvious to anyone willing to exercise even a small amount of intellectual effort is that global climate fluctuations have been the norm throughout earth's history.

Well it's no wonder we are in the mess we're in. republicans don't believe in global warming, but they believe that Saddam was a huge threat that had to be dealt with immediately, without any real planning.
TRP - Even if human activity isn't *causing* the current global warming, "anyone willing to exercise even a small amount of intellectual effort" will have to agree that human activity is certainly *contributing* to it. And just shrugging it off because "global climate fluctuations have been the norm throughout earth's history" is intellectually obscene.
Those previous events caused cataclysmic changes to the earth and the life inhabiting it. Shouldn't we, with our great intellectual capacity, be taking steps to *reduce* the warming as much as we can; to better prepare ourselves (or our progeny) to survive the changes that will certainly occur (and are occurring now) and retain some semblance of a civilized life? Or is it that much more important that we drive the biggest SUVs that can be manufactured, watch the widest screen TV, have disposable everything so that we don't have to be bothered with clean-up? Is *living the American dream* to it's fullest such a great thing that the rest of the world, and our future, can just go to hell as long as you get to live big?

I see you still refuse to answer the question. Why is it that you find it so difficult to focus on the topic at hand?
The more accurate, scientific, and non alarmist way to put it would be, human activity MAY be contributing to global warming, but since global warming has proven to occur with or without human activity, there is not a whole lot we can do about it.
The rest of your diatribe has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Typical commie lib attempt at diverting the topic.
Now, do you care to tell me what caused the several global warming events throughout earth's history?
I'm betting that you won't, and instead you will make yet another attempt to divert the topic to your hatred of Bush and Repubs, etc.
Again, try to focus and answer the question.

Why is it ,so many are so sure the eggheads really know that there was natural occurring global warming? These people live in a strange world of their own making. Sure they may THINK this is so, who really knows, they may actually be right, but, are you willing to stake your life on it? This is the only place we have to live, why not try to make it better? Oh, thats right, it wouldn't be profitable immediately, but in the long run , it would be more profitable! As far as the peasants go, your right, they are always made to fight and bleed for the rich and the intellectuals that stupidly lead them to slaughter! History shows that in the end, they wake up and WIN!
Posted by: Ranselar VanDerpoel on 02/06/07 at 8:31 AM
Ranselar, 'Raging Patriot' would not be "made to fight", the peasants LOVE to sacrifice their kids for the nobility. And, in the end the worthy win, the peasants are always too stupid to win anything. That’s what you liberals can’t comprehend. You want the peasants to love YOU for saving their kids (and providing free health insurance), but they only despise you for it.

The republicans are a bunch of dinousaurs. They should join forces with the flat earth society. I'm sure a lot of them are already members.

"Why is it, so many are so sure the eggheads really know that there was natural occurring global warming?"
You're kidding, right? Lets see, it is fact that there have been a number of ice ages and following each ice age the globe warmed up. Now, granted, I may not have been around then, but It's pretty safe to assume that since humans had not yet reached a state of industrialization 70,000 years ago, the only explanation would be natural. Duh.
As far as the rest of your commie-lib diatribe and the drivel that John wrote; why can't you dolts focus on the issue instead of attempting to shift the topic? Oh wait, it's because you have no basis upon which to stand when staying on topic.
Again, as I predicted, you still choose not to answer a simple question.
I'll make a bold prediction because you commie-libs are such easy targets: You will still choose to not answer the question, and instead you will spew out another diatribe which has nothing to do with the question I ask.
C'mon, prove me right. Or, you can prove me wrong by answering the question--What caused the several global warming events throughout earth's history?
Posted by: The Raging Patriot on 02/06/07 at 9:28 AM
TRP- I'm sorry, I'm a little confused. Prove you right about what? That global warming has occured naturally in the past?? CONGRATULATIONS, you fool. You are right! And we all have gained nothing in pondering your insight. No thank you very much.
Everyone else, congratulations too for trying so valiantly to teach this idiot something.
Are you a scientist Mr. TRP?? No? I didn't think so. Well, just to let you know- in case you can't read the complicated results of scientific study- 98% of scientists DO believe that, currently, humans are contributing to global warming. At an alarming rate. That's the issue. And furthermore, in recorded history, global warming has never been such a threat. Did you maybe forget that part of the puzzle?? So instead of listening to your pathetic, brainwashed, factless claims of this being just a normal occurance, real men and women are going to start doing something about it. Regardless of whether we can stop it or not, some of us are a little more evolved- with a sense of morality and human compassion that others just don't have.
We've moved on from listening to you pathetic souls that so desperately just want to argue with new found knowledge. Let these people learn and grow and change their world for the better. They deserve the benefits more than you.
Posted by: sarah on 02/06/07 at 2:02 PM
Sarah, you are talking like a typical liberal here. In 50 years, the America peasants will happily (heroically and GLORIOUSLY) send their kids to attack Canada for the ice, so that the nobility can rightfully cool their swimming pools. That’s the nature of peasants Sarah, you can’t educate them, only avoid them. If I were YOU Sarah, I’d take a look at a map, and figure out if YOUR kids are going to be in between the Canadian border and the xenophobic white-trash invaders, and get the hell out of the way, NOW. New Zealand is still accepting immigrates, btw, that’s where I’m headed in 10 years (or so).
Btw, these are the same peasant patriots you liberals are so desperately trying to get free healthcare for now. Ironic how they can’t stand liberals, but liberals are so desperate for love they want free health care for everybody. I have to admit that liberals are nice people (gullible though).
Posted by: john on 02/06/07 at 3:08 PM
Again, Sarah, try to remain on topic.
Now, you've finally admitted that all of the global warming that has occurred over hundreds of thousands of years has occurred naturally. So, you are willing to take a few decades of data fed into computer models of questionable integrity (glorified guessing) and use it to trump said hundreds of thousands of years of fact? Remember, these same scientist, in the 70's, were warning us all of global cooling.
Now, a couple more questions, Sarah. You say, "98% of scientists DO believe that, currently, humans are contributing to global warming. At an alarming rate. That's the issue. And furthermore, in recorded history, global warming has never been such a threat"
Did I ever say that humans weren't contributing? Are you actually aware of the actual mean temperature rise, say, over the last couple of thousand years? Also, as far as the "never been such a threat" drivel. Do you have sources to which you can point to that will back that statement up?
Obviously, you're no historian.
One more question. Do you think it's possible that the global warming we are experiencing now is of natural origin?
John, you're irrelevant. Go back to your medication.

How sad? Natural catastrophes are indifferent to one's lineage, social status and voting preferences. Turning the dangers associated with climate change into a party political debate and trying to assign blame is ridiculous! The earth has passed through periods of warming before - the last between 900 and 1250 AD. To my knowledge, Exxon Mobil was not in the oil business at that time. What is beyond denial is that the Arctic Permanent Ice pack is melting. Greenland is fast losing its ice shelf and glaciers. The Larson B ice shelf in Antarctica recently broke up. The sea level will rise. Sixty percent of the world's population lives within 60 miles of the sea. The danger from the melting of frozen methane deposits beneath the oceans, which will release a gas known to be twenty time more effective as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide is very real. I doubt we've initiated the warming cycle, but I have no doubt that we could contribute to a greater warming than would be normally be associated with the natural ice age/warming cycles of our world.
Now, you can spend the next few decades fighting your partisan corners and calling each other names, if you wish - its a free country - but you might want to start thinking about how we can live with the obvious climate change that is happening, right now, before the waves are lapping at your lower lips.
Posted by: BlondeKajira on 02/06/07 at 7:24 PM
Blondekajira,
Well said. The fact is that global warming is occurring. Based on the fact that it has occured throughout earth's history, it is apparent that there is not much we can do to stop it.
The best way to prepare for it is to practice sound science, and develope technology that will aid in adabting to it and to cut down on our production of greenhouse gases. This can hardly be accomplished by crippling our economy with silly treaties like Kyoto. Developement of such technologies takes a lot of money and a strong economy.

I can see that everyone got tired of arguing with The Raging Patriot. Hahahaha! Very funny! And since nobody wrote anything else, he couldn't continue ranting. This is a behavior-changing technique known as "extinction". We should practice it more - just ignore stupid comments and they will go away.
Posted by: Mar Wagner on 02/09/07 at 9:08 PM
Uh, wrong. The reason they don't respond is because they CAN'T. Not unless it's personal attacking blather, much like what you posted.
Posted by: The Raging Patriot on 02/26/07 at 11:03 PM
Like I said, it's your only place to live. You can ,make it better or destroy it! Your choice!

Since you're buying into the "humans cause global warming", can you perhaps explain what caused the several global warming events throughout earth's history?
