Coulter's Remark a PR Ploy?
When I blogged briefly earlier this month about Ann Coulter's most recent use of discriminatory epithets (in a room filled with big-ticket Republicans), many of the comments scolded me for mentioning her at all. There's a whole movement, it seems, of folks pushing media outlets to turn Ann into the bigot who dare not speak its name. They claim that Coulter is the shock-jock of conservatism, saying whatever will win her the most attention.
Score one for them. Coulter has a new book coming out.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE HYPE SURROUNDING ANN COULTER. I DON'T THINK IT'S REALLY A BIG DEAL WHAT SHE SAID, SHE HAS MADE SIMILAR COMMENTS IN THE PAST THAT DID NOT GET THE SAME ATTENTION- I.E. CALLING GORE A "TOTAL FAG." NEVERTHELESS, WHO CARES ABOUT HER? JUST BECAUSE SHE IS BLONDE AND CONSERVATIVE IT'S SOME KIND OF BIG DEAL? IS SHE REALLY A REPUBLICAN'S WET DREAM- SHE'S NOT EVEN ATTRACTIVE! GET OVER HER.
We're not going to stop the media from giving her attention. Let's think about some political jiu jitsu, and make her the face of conservatism. Let's make conservatives properly embarrassed for being associated with her. We can't stop the attention, but maybe we can stop conservatives from continuing to get away with letting her say what they think and then pretend she doesn't represent them.

I want to lock her in a room with Margaret Cho because I'm pretty sure who would be left standing in the end.
Actually it would be great if there was some crazy way to just push a surge of drag queen idolatry into her. I mean with Anne Coulter parade floats lined with gorgeous be-otches in silver leather hip boots with Anne Coulter wigs and banners saying stuff like: "Free to Be a Bitch in America" and "Ms. Coulter if Your Nasty". Think of it - surround her with this wave of hyper-stereotypical gay culture to such an extent that she is inexricably connected evermore to that culture, becoming somehow dirty to the freaky people who love her now. And how do gays save face while doing this? All under the guise that they support her inalienable right to free speech. I think this is brilliant, if I do say so myself. I'm heading out to Target for float decorating supplies; be back later.

Beautiful thought Paul Miller!! I love it. As for how gays could save face while doing this, I'd suggest that each and every time someone dresses as her, they pick one feature for a characture. Leave the intent still recognizable, but somehow either disgusting (even more than she already is will be difficult) or comical. I think it's a great idea. Let me know when you plan an all Annthrax parade. I want to watch and cheer!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you...
And your point is well taken - she is a chracature of herself already. The drag queens will likely have to be talked into this, but I think playing up her as-thin-and-hipless-as-a-sixteen-year-old-male-page thing would be the best bet. It also throws ghastly shadows of doubt on her silver-haired male supporters.

I'm still trying to come to grips with Coulter's claims that she's a Deadhead of some sort. Every time I try to grok that particular perplexity I feel like I'm having a flashback!

Can we please stop talking about Ana Nicole Coulter? There are more important things.

Good one James. That made me laugh. I'm not quite sure Ana Nicole deserves this level of insult. But, it does have a nice ring to it.

And it suggests a possible sister act for the parade opening events - or better yet, a split personality disorder plot line DONE as a sister act! Brilliant! I'll call the committee - you wait here.

Still waiting ...

Sorry about that - this is a tricky one to talk the community into. I've missed a lot of the meetings and had to convince them all that I had been busy recruiting. Then there was the always touchy conversation about my dues. Sheesh! I'll have to get back to you later.

Temporary revival of an old topic. I just have to share this from the Dvorak blog.
