Prosecutor Purge: Senate Doesn't Care What Bush Says, Going to Subpoena White House Officials
Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on whether to authorize subpoenas for top White House officials who have been implicated in the recent firings of eight U.S. Attorneys. Throughout his presidency, Bush has asserted his executive privilege often. If Bush denies requests by the Senate and House to speak with Harriet Miers, Miers' top aide William Kelley and Karl Rove, it could get ugly. From TPMmuckraker's news-culling of today's papers, we see that the senate committee doesn't really care whether the president authorizes the officials to explain themselves or not. Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy said, "Frankly, I don't care whether Fielding (White House counsel who will report the President's decision to Congress) says he's going to allow people or not. We'll subpoena the people we want.... If they want to defy the subpoena, then you get into a stonewall situation I suspect they don't want to have."
Did I mention I love divided government?

Subpoenas? Very exciting...I just wonder, will Karl show up? I mean, the guy has been hiding under a rock for a long time...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDaRFf7Cd6M
Karl, where aaarrreee you? LOL, from Americablog.
GOOD JOKE!!!--the "missing" US prosecutors have gone missing after mysteriously failing to embrace Bush's priorities on immigration, ect.
No..., the US Attorneys aren't getting out of hand by cracking down on employers whom don't require a proper ID from employees..., that will be the day, instead, "A screaming baby girl has been forcibly weaned from breast milk and taken, dehydrated, to an emergency room, so that the nation's borders will be secure. Her mother and more than 300 other workers in a leather-goods factory in New Bedford, MA, have been terrorized--subdues by guns and dogs, their children stranded at school--so that the country will notice that the Bush administration is serious about enforcing immigration laws." (Benders)
Ah ha, the ol' good cop, bad cop rountine?
Truth is, if the Corrupt US Attorneys Association couldn't be trusted to turn a blind eye on all that blatant crime that serves to define Bush--he wouldn't be president!!!
The US Supreme Court has held, "...we are convinced that a sentencing court may consider conduct of which a defendant has been acquitted."
And so..., wouldn't it seem as though the US Attorneys are complicit...
How is it that the Los Angeles US Attorney was teaching African-American kids that the only way to get him "off the pot" to do his job was to stage a huge riot? (the King Verdict Riot)
Alternatively, the big question here is, if you're deemed an "enemy" of Bush, should you expect two books to be thrown at you, both state and federal?
What? "The department has also acknowledged that Cummins, the Little Rock prosecutor, was asked to resign solely to provide a job for a former aide to presidental adviser Karl Rove."
Like..., GOOD LORD isn't it the US Attorney's job to combat such corruption?
Oh sure--one US Attorney has complained that, "a Justice Department official warned him to keep quiet or face retaliation," upon which our daring prosecutor tucked his tail between his legs and ran off into the Sunset...?
