Pakistan Gets Fat $4.2B Check, Now 3rd Largest Recipient of US Military Aid
The Center for Public Integrity informs us that thanks to a Defense Department program- Coalition Support Funds (CSF)- Pakistan is now the third largest recipient of all US military aid and assistance, following the heels of Israel and Egypt.
The three years prior to September 11, 2001, US military aid to Pakistan was $9.1 million. Three years after 9/11, it was more than $4.2 billion, a 45,000% increase. Since 9/11, Pakistan has been awarded a total of over $10 billion. A lot of money? Tim Rieser, majority clerk on the Senate Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs told the Center,
"With the possible exception of Iraq reconstruction funds, I've never seen a larger blank check for any country than for the Pakistan CSF program."
As if this carte blanche isn't enough, earlier this month, three Democrats introduced a "nonbinding resolution," which attempts to make military aid to Pakistan dependent on how much "progress" Pakistan is making in the war on terror. Note: "progress" here does not equal democracy and the will of the Pakistani people, who are directly affected by the General's actions. Why should it matter anyway? What matters is that the General Musharraf secures US geo-political objectives.
We've heard this story before. And apart from the fact that the US is arguably helping to fuel the nuclear arms race between India and Pakistan, it's at the expense of the civilian population. Husain Haqqani notes that the "three periods of significant flow of US aid to Pakistan have all coincided with military rule in Pakistan" and the civilian leadership has hardly been given a helping hand:
Most of the American aid money has gone towards Foreign Military Financing (FMF) and Economic Support Fund (ESF). Very little of it has flowed in ways that are visible to the Pakistani people as altering their daily lives.According to figures provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) between 1954 and 2002, the US provided a total of $12.6 billion in economic and military aid to Pakistan. Of this, the majority, $9.19 billion was given during 24 years of military rule, only $3.4 billion was given to to civilian regimes which ruled for 19 years.
On average, US aid to Pakistan amounted to $382.9 million for each year of military rule compared with only $178.9 per annum under civilian leadership for the period until 2002.
So much for "spreading democracy."

MLK said, "Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal."
Maybe it is time that we use MLK's thinking with our foreign policy. It can't go too much worse.
Center for Public Integrity should also explain, why US blindly give money to Israel - Which is richest country in this region.

9/11 was an Inside Job...
I have been researching 9/11 for over four years and there are serious unanswered questions from that day. Although, most in the mainstream media and lots of others call anyone that questions the official story a nut job, crazy or unpatriotic I appreciate that you would involve yourself in this delicate subject. People are attacked for proposing alternative theories without discussing the subject matter of what the person is proposing. see ad hominem logical arguement.
There are many important unanswered questions from 9/11, I will propose 5. I hope you investigate these for yourself. Thank you for being a beacon of hope and peace.
1) Never in the history of steel structures has a building collapsed from fire yet 3 did on 9/11; WTC tower 1,2 & 7. all three buildings came down at free fall speed with no resistance, tower 7 was never hit by an airplane yet came down symetrically in seven seconds? Additionally odd, tower 2 fell before tower 1 although tower 1 was hit first and tower 2 was hit with a glancing blow. The explosion/ collapse in tower 2 started above where the plane hit the tower?
2) There is no large plane wreckage in front of the Pentagon from the 757 that hit it. Taking from the official story, the 757 that hit the pentagon flew over a highway, parallel and 15 to 20 feet above the ground and impacted the pentagon between the 1st and 2nd floor. (official story) The airplane did not leave any markings or large debris (ex wings) on the front of the pentagon. the 757 suppossedly was sucked into a 16ft by 24ft hole, before the ceiling collapsed a 1/2 hour later, and incinerated. how did this plane hit only 15 ft above the ground after descending so rapidly without ever hitting the ground and flown by an amateur pilot? The 3 slides the pentagon released to the public shows a small shaped device flying horizontally, very low to the ground and leaving a small smoke trail. How come the Pentagon has not released video from the cameras mounted on the roof? lastly, after travelling through three rings of the Pentagon, the plane or whatever it was left a small circular exit hole in the third ring.
3. All four hijacked planes flew for an average of 40 minutes, 1 hour 50 minutes total, without any fighter jet intercept over NY and Washington. As you are aware, NY and Washington are some of the most protected airspace in the world.
4. Where is the plane wreckage from the plane crash in Shanksville, PA? in pictures and video all you see is a small ditch with no fires, plane debris, seats, bodies, etc.?
5. How was the Patriot Act and the War on Terror so
quickly developed after 9/11? Was this new program a reaction to 9/11 or something that was worked on before September 11th and just conveniently ready for a terrorist attack?
9/11 was an inside job, a false flag operation. Sadly, the sophistication of this operation points more towards state
sponsored terrorism than a small group of bandits inside a cave. How often have our leaders evoked the memory of 9/11 to rally our people for certain causes (i.e. Iraq)?
fight on in peace. I hope you decide to investigate the truth of 9/11 for yourself.
Namaste

U.S. assistance to Pakistan was halted because of its nuclear weapons programs, not because of the emergence of democracy as your selective quoting of Husain Haqqani seems to imply. And the nuclear program began under Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, a civilian Prime Minister.
Bhutto was famously quoted as saying:
"We will defend our country using any means necessary and build a nuclear capability second to none. We will eat grass for 1000 years, if we have to, but we will get there."
A civilian government under Nawaz Sharif was the first to test nuclear weapons in 1998. In addition, the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan was due to the support of the democratically elected government of Benazir Bhutto.
A simplistic democracy=good, military=bad=U.S. is a disservice to the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and a disservice to the truth.
