Rove and Co. Broke Federal Law With Email Scam

Our friends at CREW are back in the news. They've put out a report saying "the Executive Office of the President (EOP) has lost over FIVE MILLION emails generated between March 2003 and October 2005." The White House was apparently given a plan to recover those emails, but has chosen to do nothing. I'm going to go ahead and guess that the plan to uncover those emails will never be undertaken unless done so with the power of a federal subpoena, because those emails were meant to be lost.

But guess what? Turns out, this is all illegal! Dan Froomkin of the Washington Post asked a White House spokesman to read aloud the White House's policy on email retention, and this is what he said:

"Federal law requires the preservation of electronic communications sent or received by White House staff... The official EOP e-mail system is designed to automatically comply with records management requirements."

Federal law? Holy cow! Deleting your emails is a federal offense, and the official email system is designed so emails will never be "accidentally" deleted. These guys are totally on the hook, right? Wait, there's more?

"Personnel working on behalf of the EOP [Executive Office of the President] are expected to only use government-provided e-mail services for all official communication."

So using email addresses belonging to the RNC and laptops and Blackberries on loan from the same is a violation of policy?

Bring in Patrick Fitzgerald now! Everyone is going to prison!

The corruption of the Bush administration is exceeded only by their incompetence!

Posted by: David on 04/12/07 at 2:13 PM  Respond

I would say, that's backwards. The correct statement would be, "the incompetance of the Bush Administration is only exceeded by its corruption." The reason I am so certain this is correct is because nothing can possibly exceed the corruption of the Bush Administration, which is, as both modern science and the Bible claim the number of stars may be, beyond number.

Could a Dream of the American People become a reality? Which will be George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Condoleezza Rice, Alberto Gonzales, John Ashcroft, Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, and Bill O' Reilly all being placed where they belong! FEDERAL PRISON!

I feel ill. You have to know that these SOBs won't see justice, since the judges are all part of the same club, or at least that's want Alberto is trying to see done. What a crock. They can't even break the law competently.

In that these traitors are unlikely to relinduish office voluntarily their incompetence is a very good thing.

After the next reichstag fire he's suspending the Constitution. The paperwork's already in place. He's systematically destroying the Military and Guard.

'Course I'm comforted knowing there's 200,000 well equipped mercs to keep us in line.

Does 5 million lost e-mails = 5 million separate charges? What is the punishment? A year each maybe? Well, I wouldn't complain if KR went away for 5 million years.

As an observer from afar (Australia) and as a visitor to Boston annually, I can but be amazed at the arrogance of the Bush administration. This email scam is pure Karl Rove, it has to be.

Impeach them for breaking the law. Then, put them in prison to await trial and sentencing on war crimes and treason. By the way, hat is the penalty for war crimes and treason? Wouldn't that be sweet.....

On 04/12/07 at 2:13 PM, David said: "The corruption of the Bush administration is exceeded only by their incompetence!"

I agree with you David, although I would say it's the other way around. The corruption far exceeds the incompetence. I don't care how stupid Bush is, there's no way anyone could have stumbled into as much shit as has he and his crew of professional criminals.

And I've said all along that it would be something like this (seemingly benign in camparison to the lies generated to manufacture the war in Iraq) that would ultimately take this administration down. I guess it's their blow job.

Federal Prison is too clean and well-managed a place for the Bushites. How about Guantanamo or better yet, somewhere - anywhere - in Iraq! In the tender care of the new Iraqi government.

One hour for every email lost.

The Bushites ARE the Hitlerites of our times.
They act mostly like Hitler and his criminal gang did back in 1930s in Germany.
If they are not stopped NOW they will most certainly drag America into similar kind of fate Germany had eventually had to face.
Now, who has the guts to stand up against Mr. D. Cheney and his friends?!

This administration has broken many laws during their illegal reign that it seems ironic that this latest violation might bring them down. I hope it does. The entire administration should be thrown into prison for their crimes. Impeachment needs to be put back on the table. Congress can't allow these crimes to go unpunished. To do so would mean that congress is violating their oath to uphold the constitution. IMPEACH THESE CROOKS NOW,
or bend over and kiss your ass's goodbye.

While our troops and innocent Iraqis are being killed, Rove and his minions are killing the US Constitution. How these slime balls are allowed to go on with their treasons and travesties is a real sin of this Congress. There must be some kind of arrest order than can be put into effect to round up these bastards and put them in jail. When someone is in contempt of Congress there has to be a power of arrest; from where does that emanate?
Get this coven of thugs into prison, now, before it's too late. Or...maybe the people will rise up and take care of it, without prison.

The 1st (and last) Ready Reserve Alert Brigade of the 82nd Airborne should not have been sent to Iraq.

It should have been sent to Washington, DC with others, ON ORDERS to ARREST these NeoCon TRAITORS from "K" Street, Congress and the Imperial Bush White House.

As a South American who often reads and posts here, I am quite disappointed by the complicity that Bush got all along, and I am not talking about the Bushites (Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves). It is the majority of the American public that went along with this administration policies, and even now there are still large sectors of the American people that consider this government to have good intentions. Having ourselves had our own crop of incompetents, I am disgusted at the way so many Americans still defend this regime. But what is shocking is the fact Americans are basically angry at Bush because he did not do a good job of invading and destroying another country. Absent from the discussion are the legal, moral and ethical connotations of this administrations's behaviour. I can only suppose it is the result of the brainwashing methods the Pentagon aided by the servile media have carried out in the last decades. If the US is really serious about cleaning itself, the people should send the whole establishment to jail but this requires...

Doesn't matter; we'll let them get away with this foulty like all the others we gave them a pass for....or just maybe the dems will ditch the pink tutus and demand legal accountability and issue subpoenas and issue indictments according to; as they keep saying we must abide by; "the rule of law". Hope they all get comfortable jail cells.

If we don't recognize and deal with the election fraud, including computer program hacking, no paper trails, audits or adequate safeguards to protect votes we will most certainly end up with chaos. Bush did not win the 2000 election. The oft-repeated lie to the effect that he won the popular vote in 2004 much less the Electoral College vote is not upheld by the facts. The Republicans are determined to keep the privately owned computers with no paper trails and promote the red herring of individual voter fraud to intimidate voters. This is how democracy is thwarted and the criminals maintain power. Oh, they'll lose some such as what happened in 2006 when they could only move 3 million votes to the Republican congressional races. But they figure that in the aggragate they'll keep doing their dirty work by a process of attrition. It's worked for years. Why quit now?

There is apparently no crime no matter how heinous that the American public will not tolerate from the Bush crime family. Cheney and Bush should have been impeached long ago. The Democrats largely raise their campaign money on the coasts and then tilt to the middle while in office. Tragic.

Don't bother subpoenaing the e-mails. Instead SIEZE the computers and servers at RNC. If that can be done with people under suspicion for terrorism and child pornography, or soliciting, then these computers must be siezed with the same authority. Take the suckers and do the tech work by investigation staff, not with RNC staff.

These criminals will get away with it because Americans are lazy, dumb, and morally bankrupt. To do the right thing...which is to impeach and remove Cheney and Bush, indict the rest of his criminal gang, would force America to get off their collective fat asses and do something...and THINK about what has taken place under these criminals. Most Americans are devoid of knowledge about the Constitution, and couldn’t wonder less about losing civil liberties as long as American Idol is on the TV. Americans practice counterfeit piousness instead of charity and phony-righteousness instead of practicing being their brother’s keeper. We are in big trouble unless we call our Executive Branch to account for their mischief and crimes. Our elected (supposedly) officials aren’t doing their jobs, or impeachment would already be underway. There is enough evidence of criminal wrong-doing and negligence to satisfy the legal requirements for indictment. But are there “clean” or “untainted” attorneys or prosecutors left in the justice department that would do right for America? We are in big trouble, and fat-assed America needs to get off the couch.

I am trying to make sense of this administration but I can't.
Will someone please explain to me why this administration is still administering.
Guess what ! They had a plan from the beginning and this plan is working to this point in time with the cooperation of those within the money monoply of corruption and sleaze...
Surprising only a small percentage actually controls this countrys policies and the general public cannot do anything about it..
Reasoning is the power of money. Money corrupts and controls !!

Treason is a punishable by death. If there are no executions by judicial proceedings in the U.S. then the neocons responsible for this attempted right wing coup d'etat need to be delivered to the war crimes tribunal at the Hague. Only then will the U.S. begin to regain it's placed among civilized nations.

I just don't get how this administration has gotten away with all they have these past years. With all of their endless lies, their corruption, katrina, the Iraq war, torture, wiretapping, stolen elections, outsourcing of america's jobs, tax giveaways for the rich, repossessions of america's homes at an all time high, and failure to either acknowledge global warming or address the problem...I mean I could go on and on. "But just what does it take to get these bastards impeached?" "Just what the hell does it take?" I just don't get it!!!!! Exactly what is it that we are
waiting for anyway? I'm not going to get my hopes up again over this. I swear that the Bush administration is either charmed or the anti christ...because nobody seems to be able to touch them.

So many secrets, no wonder justice is just a word anymore.

God Bless

These Bushies and the entire Bush crime family keep going because they have the 59 million votes that put them in office and gave them dominion over the other 241 million of us americans.
I keep saying this and I'll continue, the religious right, both catholic and evangelical fundies give them the votes and political power to continue to commit the crimes against America and keep them in office. Religious fundamentalism, be it catholic, evangelical or Islamic are all dangerous and destructive to human life. Stop falling for that endless BS that they are Pro-Life. How in the name of all that is holy is any of this death for profit and world domination the least bit Pro-Life. It's not, it's nothing more than way over the top Pro-Death and Pro-Profit and Pro-Domination of all human beings. And if we don't stop them we will have a New World Order, ie. GITMO or shades thereof everywhere. Now they are attacking the internet under the guyise of stopping porn while the biggest carrier of porn is none other than the darling of the religious right, namely Rupert Murdoch and Fox News. Yet they say nothing about him they just turn a blind eye. Stop Murdoch, Fox News and stop the religious right who keeps these people in power.
Stop corrupt religion or religion may end in the US. Religion is supposed to be a personal issue not to be forced down the throats of everyone who thinks differently and doesn't exactly follow the mindset of the two fundie religions that have taken control of our once democratic gov't. Remember Scalia advocated the end of the rule of law and the end of democracy in America. He must be impeached, and yet he is a member of the SCOTUS. His kind of thinking strikes fear in my heart. And he is a member of the religious right as are Thomas, Roberts and Alito, all catholics, my religion but not me.

Regarding Hillary Clinton;

It is my opinion she should have been elected as the Nominee for the Democratic Party. She is ready to be the next President of the USA.

It was the flawed DNC that gave Barrak Obama the nomination. He is not qualified, nor do we know enough about him. Simply he gives a good speech. The more I have learned about him in the past several month's have really turned me off to him.

While listening to your programs, and hearing from your guests and their opinions I think they are wrong. If Obama, does not give the VP slot to Hillary. This fifty-four year old, long term Democratic Male will not vote for the first time in many years.

With Hillary's, Eighteen Million votes Obama could win. If he tries to do it any other way. He will loose.

I would never vote for McCain, I simply will not vote. Everyone I know feels the same way as I do. If you commentators think we will calm down and then vote for Obama, they are WRONG!

Thank you for listening,
