Pet Food Recalls: Blame Bush. No Really

Rick Perlstein has an interesting and persuasive little column on AlterNet today. It goes sort of like this: First they came for the spinach. Then they came for the peanut butter. Then they hurt my dogs and I got pissed. Post pet-food recall, Perlstein looked into the Food and Drug Administration—the agency responsible for ensuring the safety of human and pet food—and found that it, too, had fallen victim to Bush's starve-the-good-parts-of-government philosophy. Between 2003 and 2006 FDA safety inspections were down 47 percent and staffing, 12 percent. Safety tests conducted on food produced in the United States were down by three quarters from last year to this. Not only is no one making sure your food is produced safely, they don't even care about your dog's kibble.

I'm with Perlstein. Bush can take my money, my health insurance, and my civil liberties, but he'll have to pry my little furry friend from my cold, dead hand.

Wait until that ugly black funny looking creature, otherwise known as the White House dog gets sick and dies in his own vomit. Maybe Laura will finally divorce the King George the Little and admit she made as bad a mistake as about 50% of the rest of the population. Some marriages must be really hell on earth.

No, not a Bush supporter but arguing that Bush somehow indirectly caused the pet food contamination problem is a bit obsurd. Come on. Pet food manufacturers should have it in their own best interests to produce safe food. Pet owners won't accept a product that will harm their pets. Also, pet owners need to take responsibility for what they feed their pets. I only feed my cat fresh, organic meats and vegetables from Whole Foods. If pet owners are actually mean enough to serve their animals manufactured kibble, then they probably don't deserve to own a pet. Yes, Bush is a screw up but you can't blame him for everything.

When government regulations are relaxed in every sector of manufacturing, ignoring safety and the environment, so that big bucks will flow into campaign coffers come election time- then it is fair to connect Bush directly to the pet food contamination, as well as the spinach and peanut butter; and whatever else may turn up in the future.

His administration made a mockery of government regs. And, corporations are well aware that they can take advantage of this form of governance that favors big business over consumers.

Mr. Bush is driving the train. And, it is his fault each time it derails.

There are no good words to express how mad it makes me. He tried to kill my cat!

I'm lucky neither of my dogs have gotten sick. To be safe, I switched them over to an all natural raw homemade diet. My journey, including free homemade dog food recipes, is on my blog at http://www.homemadehealthypetfood.com.

Does the arrogant worm, not get that he is eating from the same tainted food supply;that is endangering the rest of us?I've never seen a world leader(in my lifetime)who held such little regard, for the lives of others. Both Human and Animal.
