Illegal Immigration—Terrorism Nexus Debunked
The anti-immigration forces have long pushed the myth that cracking down on illegal immigration is necessary to stop terrorism from seeping into the United States.
They might want to tell the Department of Homeland Security about their game plan. According to a new study that analyzed millions of records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, only 0.0015 percent of cases filed in immigration courts by the Department of Homeland Security have had anything to do with terrorism. Only 0.014 percent pertained to national security.
The rest were mundane immigration cases. According to the study, 85 percent of the charges involved infractions such as not having a valid immigrant visa, overstaying a student visa, or entering the United States without an inspection.
So the Department of Homeland Security's immigration department is protecting our country from over-ambitious graduate students instead of terrorists. Unless there really aren't any terrorists trying to sneak in across the southwestern desert, in which case someone might want to fact-check Michelle Malkin.

Actually the situation is much more complicated and worse than just concentrating on the wrong population. Despite the fact that the vast majority of the 911 hijackers were Saudis and most had entered the US legally on nonimmigrant student visas, in April of 2005 George Bush entered into an agreement with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to establish programs to bring in thousands more Saudi students to study in the US. In effect the Bush administration has acted to beef up security where there is no evidence of signficant problems, while "streamlining" procedures in programs that were at the very heart of 911 conspiracy.
Great post, but I have a question. I don't have a problem with - like MoJo - supporting illegal immigration, even though I wonder about things like supporting the corrupt MexicanGovernment, enriching and entrenching the MexicanOligarchy, encouraging massive PoliticalCorruption in the U.S., lowering wages for low-wage U.S. workers - but, oh where was I?
Oh yeah: those who are serious - and not lightweights like MoJo - may want to research the links between the 911Hijackers and illegal immigration and may want to read the 911Commission StaffReport. There's a world of things that MoJo don't know.

Just because the cases filed were for infractions like expired visas, it does not necessarily follow that the illegals involved did not have terrorist intent. Remember, Al Capone was locked up on tax evasion.

Jonathan, I didn't realize that all illegal immigrants were "over-ambitious graduate students".
If you're going to post, please do so intelligently.

It is a fact that due to not protecting the southern border from invaders, one can strap a nuke on a donkey and come across. If we get hit by a suitcase nuke, it will be that way. Since we are not protecting the southern border, it leads me to believe that all this talk about Muslim terrorists is just Zionist lies. The army should come home from Iraq and be put on the southern border to stop all contraband, including drugs. Sorry guys. By the way, the case was made for no more student visas to middle eastern types.
