Mexico Sending Citizens for Health Care on the U.S.'s Tab
With immigration in the news, let's see what you think of a new program being offered by Mexican Consulates in the United States. The program, called Ventanillas de Salud, or Health Windows, "aims to provide Mexican immigrants with basic health information, cholesterol checks and other preventive tests. It also makes referrals to U.S. hospitals, health centers and government programs where patients can get care without fear of being turned over to immigration authorities," according to the Los Angeles Times.
Illegal immigrants are not eligible for federal entitlement programs such as Medicare, but they are eligible for the Women, Infants and Children program and, like everyone else, must be treated at hospital emergency rooms. The federal government later reimburses hospitals for care provided and not paid for.
I'm having a hard time deciding if I think this program is a good idea or a terrible one. Providing some basic information and diagnostic tests at the consulates seems reasonable enough. And I'm generally in favor of the U.S. government providing basic human services to those that work for us and live among us. But when the Mexican government starts spending money to make sure its citizens in the United States are cashing in on our government's generosity (to the tune of $1.1 billion in Los Angeles alone last year), I find my feathers getting a little ruffled.
The Ventanillas program probably doesn't cost much, from the sounds of it, but why doesn't that money go into providing education, job opportunities, and health care in Mexico? It seems perverse that the Mexican government is eager to be "relevant in the lives of its citizens in the United States," as Steven A. Camarota, research director for the Center for Immigration Studies, puts it, when it has failed to meet their most basic needs at home. I mean, is the Mexican government trying to outsource government, thereby admitting that Mexico is a failed state?

Why? Answer: The CFR and their puppet Bush wants to merge Mexico, and Canada with the US so the rich and their corporations will have cheap labor and resources like some of the old South America dictatorships(check their website). The plan is to destroy our welfare system by flooding us with cheap laborers each with a spouse, two old parents(SSI) and six or more children(all on Medical, and public schools). The American taxpayers will not vote for high enough taxes to support all of our benefits. Western Europe is starting to bail on their welfare system as well. They will be Muslim with the nukes in 50 years. I will be dead by then, so I don't care.

I think it helps point out that MoJo - specifically contributors like Jonathan Stein (tinyurl.com/24stq9) - are simply useful idiots for the corrupt Mexican oligarchy.
If MoJo wants to do some real reporting on this issue, pick up where this left off: tinyurl.com/8u2jm
There's much more out there, such as the Bush administration fighting to allow banks to accept Mexico's ID card (so money can be more easily sent back to Mexico), and allowing the FDIC to work with the MexicanConsulate in Chicago to give home loans to illegal aliens.
Of course, if you'd rather support Bush's agenda, go right ahead.

I live in San Diego- lots of Mexicans. I certainly am not racist but I am a staunch advocate of border security and I oppose any type of amnesty or making it easier for Mexicans to mooch off our already crappy health care system. Another thing I notice is when they are all out doing their stupid immigration march last month, they are waving Mexican flags. If they love Mexico so much, then I wonder what the hell they are doing here?? Also, the liberal defense of "they are doing jobs we won't do" is trite and not even true. What about all the thugs, drug dealers, etc. that are here illegally? I live near some poor Mexican hoods and I want to move further away- it's just a crime infested area. How is this supposed to be good for the country? Just one more random observation- have Mexicans ever heard of this thing called birth control? Jesus they love to have like 10 kids.

SO DISGUSTING IT IS NOT EVEN WORTHY OF A COMMENT..YES WE ARE A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS AND OUR STATUE OF LIBERTY IS PROUD OF IT..PERHAPS THEY SHOULD DIG A TRENCH ABOUT 20 FEET DEEP AND IMPLANMT MORE STATUES OF LIBERTY EACH 10 OR SO MILES TO INSURE THAT THOSE COMING ACROSS OUR BORDER ARE ARRESTED BY THE STATUES AND MADE CITIZENS WHO PAY TAXES AND PLAY BY THE RULES.....

It is interesting that this debate is framed so carefully as to avoid identifying the real problems. Yes, we are a nation of immigrants. Immigration from nations in trouble, in famine, in economic collapse...the fed our development as a country, our character as a society, and our place in the world as the leader of nations. Our influence in the world from where we stood gave us the moral high ground. All that being said, it is important to realize that our problems with immigration lie with the corporate America. It is quite clear that "if you build it" they will come. They come with plane tickets from Mexico and central America. They by Bus, car, foot, many funded with cash from third part agencies receiving funding from corporate agencies and trust, some public. Many religious agencies are lured (and amply payed) into the fray and are both accomplises and facilitators, offering safe houses, food and familial services. There is a reason why they want to reframe this debate and problem of illegal immigration into a "Guest Worker Program". Take away the "Corporate America" right to personhood granted under the 14th Amendment and you effectively solve half of Americas political and economic problems. Make the new "corporate america" pay for their guest workers completely, meaning, housing, healthcare, fairwages, taxes, social security, medicare and all other associated expenses and the need for these workers will shrink significantly. Think people...act appropriately, and above all means make you voices heard where the impact will mean the most...in the board room. The politico-patsies we elect are the lapdogs of coporate giants.

Those poor illegals. They worked so hard to get here and no one cares. They need healthcare after working so hard. They need to steal jobs from my daughter. It's a shame that my daughter can't get an entry level job in Brooklyn, NY, but the illegals need it more. I can understand why employers prefer illegal employees to her. Illegal aliens don't require payroll tax or workers comp. They don't require bookkeeping. Illegals can get all their medical care for free. Whereas, should my daughter ever need medical care from an on the job injury, someone would have to pay.

Its amazing the vitriol that the immigration debate brings up in people. I agree with the author. We have to work to discourage people from coming here by pressuring Mexico to make life better in Mexico. Tightening the borders isn't going to work any better than the war on drugs. The vast majority of Mexicans would rather live in Mexico than the US. The only reason they come is there are opportunities here that aren't available there. The Mexican government should be worrying why their hardest working residents are fleeing, risking their lives to work ridiculously hard for very little pay. They shouldn't be complaining about how they're being treated in a new country.
Not that I agree with how Latino immigrants get treated here. It's shameful. I have a bit of an idea because of how I get treated by racist asshats because I have brown skin too.

The CFR is afraid of Mexico going the way of Chavez if they have honest elections, so they let the unhappy Mexicans come to America to work(also makes a good profit for the American capitalists). The illegals coming to America relieves the pressure on the capitalist ruling class in Mexico. You have to understand the bigger picture.
