Obama 35 Percent More Likeable Than Clinton. Does it Matter?
A new FOX News poll [pdf] asks poll respondents if they find the two leading Democratic candidates for president "likeable." The results: Hillary Clinton is considered likeable by 56% of respondents, Barack Obama by a whopping 76%. Even 68% of self-identified Republicans like BHO.
So my question is this -- is the huge difference in how people perceive them a product of personality differences or the fact that Clinton has been dragged through the mud of several prominent campaigns? To put it another way, will Obama's numbers drop after some extended time in the national spotlight?
For what it's worth, respondents were much more likely to label Clinton a "strong leader" than Obama, but they were more likely to label Obama "honest and trustworthy" than Clinton.

The fix is in. Senator Clinton will get it no matter what. AIPAC knows that she is a reliable puppet. Obama is too independent.

Dan,
Your assertion that anyone who likes Hillary must be deluded (rose colored glasses) is a pretty thin argument. Like-ability is a subjective matter and not an objective one.
I agree with your opinion of her, frankly, but I'm willing to let others think differently without suggesting that they are foolish to do so.
And like you, I'm pulling for Richardson with Obama as my second pick. I'd love to see a Richardson/Obama ticket, actually, and have donated to both campaigns.
We need real change. I'm afraid that Hillary would just bring more of same b.s. that has dominated D.C. for the last three decades.

Dennis Kucinich will bring real change. He stands out from the rest of the pack. He is a courageous person who speaks the truth and is not afraid of the consequences.

Against Obama despite his lovely smile because he wants to burn coal and put boots on the ground in the Middle East where there are terrorists.

I agree that Dennis Kucinich is righteous. I believe he is an honorable man with a deep intellect and a delightful sense of humor. I am pleased to have him participate in the debates and I hope people truly listen to some of his ideas.
He is, unfortunately, completely un-electable as President. The stakes are far too high, IMHO, to cast a vote based on what our hearts may tell us. We must also engage our heads and make a practical choice. Our Founding Fathers deliberately and wisely drew up a plan for government that only works when compromise is part of the equation.

I agree with Dan and Deacon. Richardson/Obama would make an excellent ticket in 2008. I also have given to both camps.

I disagree that Dennis Kucinich is 'unelectable'. Who has the right to decide that? If people vote for a candidate, then he/she is electable. In addition, if we don't vote our heart and conscience in the primaries, how will we ever know who the people really want. I advocate strongly for Instant Runoff Voting so that we can vote our first choice, and our second choice, eliminating the fear of throwing away our vote. Lastly, I have been working on climate change and energy issues since 1999. I cannot in good conscience vote for anyone that believes 'clean' coal, liquified coal, or nuclear power are sustainable options. They are not. At this point, I cannot support Barack Obama for that reason.

Prediction: The Dems pick Hilary and Obama. The Republicans win 51-49 on `08, because:
The Mormans and Evangelicals (and Jesus) don’t want no WUMAN runnin’ his favorite country.
The white-middle-trash-suburban-class voters don’t want “one of those people” running THEIR country.
The military - and the civilians that want `merica to have the worlds biggest dick – don’t want a WUMAN as their commander-in-chief.

Movable Type 3.33
Hillary being unlikeable has very little to do with her name being dragged through the mud. She is a rancid and dishonest personality who is really only concerned with her own interests. Sorry, but any of the 58% who called her likable have rose colored glasses on and probably have visions of another 8 years of Clinton nirvana.(which you won't get with her.) Should Ms. Clinton win the nomination it would seriously jeopardize my vote for a Democratic president, which this country sorely needs.
On a side note, isn't honesty and trustworthiness one of the key ingredients to being a good leader? I for one am unlikely to follow anyone who I can't trust. This would seem to me to be one of Clinton's weakest points, so how can she possibly be a good leader.
On a side note, I'm pulling for Richardson, but Obama would do just fine in my opinion.
